Those pics a couple of posts back are from May 15th, so it is open to the drift. At this point im not sure how close to the drift you can get from 285 but there's not gate or anything. Redcone had a closed gate when I was up there though.

How was the water crossing?

I could not see any snow on the other side beyond the drift. so im thinking its clear. ( I have never ben over the pass ) . the water crosing was low I didnt even get my boots wet. im suprised its still closed the olny mudy spot i can think of was one swich back had a little snow left. its gone to day I have no doubt. do you think it would be worth a try to get to the drift from the south?

I rode the south side last night met two riders coming down (I was going up) than had made it over and back on 250s. Now there is a path shoveled through the drift 2.5 feet wide. About an inch of ice covers the trail ware the snow was. The gate is closed on the Montezuma side.

June 8th officially

I was camping there for 4 days last week. On the 7th I was tempted to push the bike over from the East side with 3 guys. The next day going up someone opened it up wide enough to pass with a 4 wheeler barely. I easily passed over that day.
