True but ihave a Verizon Android. Allegedly they won't "unlock" but I'm going to go by and see. I noticed one phone for $29.00 +10 shipping. I don't know what the charge is for usage though.

Keep the goodstuff (TRAVEL INFO.) coming in.

I went to the Verizon store and they can't unlock. I guess I'll have to look for one of the cheapies there.

I don't get it, don't you have like dosens of old cellphones lying around somewhere in the basement? Ha ha ha, I know that it is a trivial question, but I use an old unlocked nokia N78 for my second telephone in which I plug a prepaid SIM card:-) I like normal telephones because battery lasts for 4-5 days and I don't really wory about it if I would loose it For 50 euros you save you can buy yourself and your missis really fancy breakfast in Monaco :-)

OK, bouncing off of WIBO's suggestion, I checked out SFR's current deals as well as those of the other two major phone companies. SFR has a phone for 25 euros, including the SIM and 5 euros worth of time. No ups, no extras. Out the door for 25 euros. Additional minutes via cards that are sold lots of places, cigarette shops, supermarkets, etc. Don't think you'll find a better deal. If you are interested, PM me.

I plan on doing a 9 day trip this august. I'm going to do the Route des Grandes Alpes like somebody already mentioned above. Not far from that route is the next road, pretty cool if you're an all/offroader:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVNzJq70iE0

The Col de Sommeiller, the highest legal road in Europe. Mind that it's closed friday-saturday-sunday (that's what I've heard). Every second weekend of july there is the Stella Alpina Rally, the highest motorcycle meeting in Europe.

Google maps link: http://g.co/maps/amj3j

If you click on Roadbook here and then "Ses variants" you'll find some other "side routes": http://www.grande-traversee-alpes.co...lps-trail.html

Thumb Pyranees!

I loved the Pyranees....We spent a few days whizzing through it a year or so ago. Great and quiet roads...

It seems that THE road to ride on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees is the N260. It runs from Sabinanigo east of Pamploma virtually to the Med. For some reason, the section from Ripoli to Bourg-Madame is the N152. I rode it last year in late June and was surprised to find that the traffic was very light. I wouldn't say it was a challenging ride but certainly was a helluva lot of fun and for the most part scenic.

I never had any problems. I was riding two up and not really aggressive.

This is a good website for those Alpine passes

The south of France is great but a bit expensive.
