Yes. I moved from south florida where i was born and raised to North Georgia. I moved solely because i ride bicycles and mountain bikes and of course motorcycles and florida sucks for all three. They are my passion and more important than other things in my life. Now i can be in the foothills in less than an hour and in the mountains in 2. Heck i can hit the dragon (although i prefer to ride anywhere else in north georgia or northcarolina, even sotuh carolina) and be back home for dinner.

I live about 3 miles from the ocean on the NJ shore.
Bought this house in 2000. Was supposed to flip it and move west.
The wife had other plans. Now she and my son live 10 miles from here.
So I'm here until he graduates high school in 2020. I'll be 62.
My son is my top priority.

Would like to go to the UP, but couldn't deal with the snow.
Will probably go towards Missouri or Arkansas.

The goal is to build a modest command post and then spend the
rest of my days exploring. Exploring from a NJ command post
Is very limiting.

I used to live in the Capitan Mountains, a lot of my family is from there/still there. If you need a place to test missiles and nuclear weapons, or store hazardous waste, New Mexico is your place! If you need an economy... Well, the motorcycling is great! Mountains, deserts, sometimes trees. New Mexico needs a motorcycle based economy.

That "Breaking Bad" is filmed here doesn't help our image much. As for the Border Patrol -- it would be nice if our Justice Department didn't make their job tougher than it already is.

Somewhat ironically, the place where they test the missiles is also home to some incredible once-in-a-lifetime (draw) hunts for ibex and oryx. Go figure.

The nuclear waste storage may not be glamorous, but I'd rather it be done properly so as to grow our nuclear power production capacity. I don't remember any nuclear weapons test, but there are evenings when Albuquerque seems to glow a little more than usual...

The Capitan area is gorgeous. Some great riding there. I'm not sure how you'd base an economy on motorcycles, but it couldn't be any worse than some of the other crazy ideas that have come out of our legislature!

I watch the job ads off and on. Seems like the average advertised pay is $11/hr in Santa Fe.

How the hell do people get by? I mean the people who aren't making their money in some other State or Country and just have a vacation home in SF/Taos...

Indeed, that is exactly why I left, I lived in Las Cruces and worked at both White Sands Missile Range in the Military and White Sands Test Facility for NASA. Sadly, I have a hard time getting out of bed at 4:45am for $13.45 an hour, so when I got a call back east, I ran screaming.

Basically, you have Sandia and Los Almos, if you happen to have an in with them, otherwise good luck.

When I moved to Las Cruces the median income was $33,000 but the average home price was $220,000.....apparently some jack ass decided it was a good idea to retire there so the place is becoming infested with Californians, including the guy that moved into a town literally named "The Crosses" and sued the city because their Town logo was *shockingly* three crosses

I miss the riding I was forever messing around in the Continental Divides, but oh well.
