zombies are bigger too, i couldnt really tell if i was hitting them or not, as it was an indoor range in a shopping mall so they smashed on the wall about half a second after my window of shooting...

That means that one either discards weapons for which one has exhausted the carried ammunition -- or, pack them away and carry the weight until one can break into another gun shop and stock-up once more. That's assuming there is any left.

Crossbow

Compound Bow

In skilled hands the compound bow has the advantage of discharging an arrow more often in rate-of-fire, while the crossbow is still effective in the hands of the less skilled.

The messy bit, with both, is retrieving one's bolts or arrows. But unlike firearms, if one can retrieve spent missiles them one can carry on employing the weapon.

So, think on that! Firearms in use could well be regarded as Zombie Magnets, along with attracting undesirable attention from other survivors who may not have kindly intentions towards YOU!

Telescoping Nightstick

Multi - Purpose 5-in-One Survival Shovel

Interestingly squidoo - Best Weapons FAZA dismissed both plain chainsaw & katana as unreliable weapons.

Maybe (along with the machete) it may take a good quality Broadsword to qualify as a dependable Zombie Slice & Dice weapon? I recall R.E. Howard's favorite Cimmerian warrior had no great difficulty in cleaving through his foes from shoulder to crotch, . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

DC2wheels had a novel take on cellphones as a distraction device for zombies:
On top of that, I see exploding superglue pods built into these, capable of instantly cementing tight-packs of zombies head-to-head, with the endmost zombie "tethered" to a lamp-pole?
you need to get a quality blade, such as used for Tameshigiri which is cutting Tatami matt and bamboo, a art used to test swords as cutting a wet rolled bamboo matt, with bamboo in the middle simulates cutting somebodys head off, one cut, you got a good sword. its now a sport.

Im an Archer, and a Swords Man. Ill probably die, but ill die fighting, but it does have a few valid points, if you cant cut a critical area which you do to kill a live human., how are you going to kill them unless you decapatate them.

Thats a first. An indoor range in a shopping mall, for shooting skeet? That might be the place to hole up when the ZA happens. It would have to be very secure already!

I've been playing DayZ mod for ARMA2 for a few weeks now.

Just to recap, ARMA2 is a PC game, which has very hardcore settings compared to regular First Person Shooter games. Some people call it a simulation, but really its just a hardcore FPS.

One person, decided to take that game as a base, and create an add-on to it, called DayZ.

So when you enter the game, you are spawned in a random location on a big island. Zombies are PC controlled, while players are all humans. You start with a flash light, some bandages, and thats about it.

The goal is to survive. Wonder from village to village, looting. You can find ammo, guns, food, drink, meds, tools, you can fix the cars, etc etc.

Its a fully open world.

Oh, and when you die, you die. You exit the game, loose any loot you found, and have to come back as a brand new character and start from scratch. One bullet usually does the trick.

Now here is the interesting part.

We all talk here about being prepared to fight off zombies. Well, from playing this game, with mindless zombies, but human players, I have to say that humans are far more dangerous than zombies. You will get killed more often by a human, than by a zombie, and its usually over a can of beans.

So I'm now questioning, if we should prepare ourselves more against raving lunatics, and gangs that would populate such a world, rather than zombies. Hehehe

The worst situation I can think of is one where the resources are wiped out but all the people remain. People get nasty when they don't have enough to eat.

An interesting thought. Countering the risk of becoming a Zombie Target against the risk of becoming Long Pig?

Long Pig

. . but come that Zombie Apocalypse . . . that may no longer be true!

Everyone who sees my motorhome assumes I'm preparing for the zombie apocalypse (and of course they're right).

pets to the rescue?

Here's an idea. Arrange for our pets to be trained in the martial arts. When they are all fifth dan black belt - they'll be ready to help keep us safe . . . from zombies!
(Ready to defeat home-invaders into the bargain)

Even your humble kitty-cats:

In fact it was a little bit fright'ning, but they fought with expert timing

There was funky Sootty Meow and little Orange Tom

He said,
hair komes da zombies now, let's gezt it on.

(See what I mean?)
