There are only shades of possible and impossible. Nothing is absolute.

While we're waiting, somebody should hire a few campesinos to go upstream from Yavisa. Take the right fork of the river. You'll come to a pier with a red track going up a hill. If it is very muddy you will have to winch the bike but there is a large wheel at the top of the hill with an old but strong cable. Follow the track east and you will find a jeep path. Soon- a few hours- there is a gravel road. Do not take photos. Take two passports- one that you "lost" and the new one you replaced it with. Do not tell us how you got to Colombia.

It is possible to have your passports technically have you in multiple countries at once. Kind of how when you go through Mexico you don't have to check out as long as you check out eventually.

For stamps and import permits it is best to be creative. This is why you need two passports and you should probably make a pre-trek trip to Colombia to get your stamps and permissions. In Panama you will need special permission to go upriver. Be creative with your goal destination.

Scapegoat to Test The Ferry

Bananaman,

I can tell that we will get along very well!

To the rest,

I was working the bar yesterday (at the hotel I am involved in) and met a very experienced traveller (been going for over 30 years, with stops here and there). He has been in constant contact with Aventuras 2000 about the ferry. He purchased a ticked for the May 31 cruise ($560 for person and a car - return).

Apparently the two countries have found a resolution and a round trip ticket must be purchased. He is certain that the ferry is leaving on May 31, even after my reservations were put forth.

The good news is that I asked him to report back directly to me if there are any issues. Hopefully we will hear very shortly on if there is an issue... if I don't hear back from him I will investigate - so as not to assume that all is good.

John, you might want to buy a new compass.

Remember, with a bottle of Old Parr you can speak Portuguese.

This round-trip ticket stuff is dumb. There are no Panamanians wanting to emigrate to Colombia. There are over a million Colombians living in Panama and the risk of forfeiting a return ferry ticket isn't going to get them out.

Hopefully overlanders can get an exemption.

I'm getting ready to make the turn South here in a little bit

Old Parr is my wild card, I'm getting things sqared away here in VZ with the great help of SS. This Black Market stuff is a little tricky at first you know The exchange and price of gas makes it all great, Angel Falls and Roraima are on my list along with a few nice beaches and a cave or something.

Breaking News

I got the report 20 mins ago.

The May 31st ferry from Colon has officially been cancelled due to continued bureaucratic BS.

My informant (whom has a ticket) was informed via email this morning, I will see if I can get the body of the email to post here.

Email from Ferry Company

Here is the email exactly as sent from the ferry company. I have not altered this in any way - including leaving the signature complete. In the sig you can find a link to a virtual tour of the boat.

This message is in no way an attack and information was obtained legally via forwarded transmission from the intended recipient. The purpose is to provide information for all those interested in using the services to be provided by the ferry.

Sorry for the above preamble... without further delay, the email.

Good Afternoon,

I hope you are having a good day!

The operation of the Nissos Rodos, is having unexpected problems with the last operating permits. In order to safeguard the security of the operation both governments have expanded in some way the final permits which has resulted in a delay in formalizing our departure date. Because of this, we were unable to send the e-tickets as promised.

If this process is very cumbersome for you, and if you wish we will give you a 100% refund of the money paid (you will receive a check to your name in a period of 3 business days) or if you want us to keep your reservation and make any adjustments in the schedule if necessary. "

We apologize for all the inconvenience this may cause!

Looking forward to your response.

No prediction when service might begin. Instead, vague boilerplate blaming officialdom.

Wonder where the boat is located at the moment. Not Greece.....?
