Actually, I believe in helmet/seat belt laws for children. Children should be protected from the stupidity of their parents. Adults, however, should be free to make their own stupid choices as long as it doesn't endanger others. Up with Darwin! Down with the Nanny State! |

When you crash without a helmet, you are more likely to have a quick, low cost death and result in an excellent source of high quality and lucrative donor organs for deserving children. When you crash with a helmet on, you are more likely to end up as a messy orthopedic case who can't work, becomes an alcoholic drug addict, and a useless burden on society. Truly, you should have known...

Head trauma can last the rest of a very long life.
Gary Busey had just left a dealership and dropped the bike popping his unhelmeted head off a curb. He will NEVER be the same... EVER! It is sad but he chose. In this vid he sounds/acts loaded but he is not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na8lUFb5aSI Quite often it is not the initial blow that damages the brain but the brain's rebound from the blow. Yeah... I am talking out my ass so this is the last post in this thread.

Couldn't care less about helmet laws. Pisses me off that groups like the AMA spend so much time bitching about helmet laws when there are much more important things to be concerned about.

Society should not have to pick up the cost... other than that, I am all in favor of letting the rules of Darwin do their job. if some does not feel like they need to wear a helmet to protect their brain, then they are probably correct.

Amen. I choose freedom from the consequences of others' stupidity. As long as your choice to ride helmetless is reflected in your rates and not mine, I'm all for it.

I've worn a motorcycle helmet since I was a kid (mid-60's) before there were helmet laws. Been doing it so long that helmetless feeds nekkid. I do sometimes ride a dead-end counrty road nearby w/o helmet to evaluate mechanical noises on the bike, but not when riding for real...

I replace a shield on my helmet about once/year because something (rock, big bug, ???) left a crater in it. I suppose I could collect the bugs & rocks with my face.
For those not from around the Great Lakes, mayfly season would be fun w/o a helmet. I can see it now- Hey babe, let me wipe the bugs offa my face & buy you a drink
