Portugal was cold at night, great for sleeping. I was cold crossing Spain. Riding to Marseilles today was good. Now I'm on a ferry to Corsica. Fingers crossed for nice weather and poor roads there!

We're having some strange/rather warm weather on and off here in Croatia

Well, hopefully that will last so it is warm when I get into Croatia in December.

There are parts of Croatia that will most likely be covered in snow, actually
it's already a miracle they're not.

While most that live along the Adriatic coastline usually can ride all-year long,
last year we had some crazy winds and even snow in those areas where
snow falls once in 10 years. Ice rain too.

The Road Warriors love the road from Rijeka to Dubrovnik (along the coast),
can't help much with offroad stuff.

I live in Osijek, far east near the Serbian and Hungary border.

I might be able to offer a place to crash, but I live in a building and I know
you're more concerned about sleepin quarters for your bike then yourself.


I'll probably be on the road for 5-8 days in December going all over the
place (in a van ) but I'd love to meet you if our paths cross!

You might even get a free meal!

First snow in Croatia expected this Saturday.

While you may be able to ride on thin snow coverage, there's not a chance that
you'd be able to ride in the wind that we get here (called Bura). Most main roads
are closed for motorcycles (and everything other then normal cars) during that.

We may be able to steer you around those roads though if it gets ruff.

I will stay near the coast and if it gets to bad, I'll have to get on a ferry to get south of it all. I hope I get to see atleast SOME of Croatia.

The "Bura" happens along the coast only, and when it gets as bad as it
got last year, ferries are a no-go too.



This road is the most enjoyable, and the worst re: wind.
It's often closed just south of Rijeka and all the way to the end (near Zadar).

You can hit highways A1 and A6 to get south (toll roads), those won't be
closed and won't be so windy but you really wanna see those cities along
the coast.

Pula, Senj, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Omiš, Makarska, Dubrovnik.. from North
to South.

If you try going east at any point on that road, you'll end up climbing very
high and very fast, and those areas are usually covered in snow from
November to (sometimes) April.

It gets warmer (and lower altitude too) somewhere south Split, and you'll
probably find people riding in flip-flops in Dubrovnik, after riding on snowy
roads just 12h before around Rijeka.

I completely agree with Cortez. You can crash at my place in Zagreb, but if the weather continues as it does during this time of year, it will be very difficult to get to the coast from Zagreb. Snow covered mountains and freezing temperatures are between the two. Good luck.

Also worth mentioning that the first highway they close when the weather
hits is the A6 (Karlovac-Rijeka).. right about the middle, from Delnice to Rijeka.

There's a bypass road there that's usually cleared of snow very often since
it remains the only passable road between the seaside and continental parts,
even with a lot of snow fall.

It'll be tricky.

Once you get down to the coast in Croatia the weather is usually completely different. I've had lunch sitting outside in a t-shirt in December near Sibenik.
