I turned in my application last night and this morning, I received a call from Indy. I made it! This will be my first time doing anything like this. I'm really looking forward to it! Thanks Uncle Duke!

For anyone out there thinking about doing this - don't, just sign up for a great experience.

I have been with the medical team at Phillip Island for over ten years for both WSBK and 500's/MotoGP and it's been a real privilege to meet so many great riders and team members over the years. Down here the riders are pretty relaxed as the crowds are a lot less than Europe so it's easy to grab a photo and have a quick chat. Probably the nicest guy is Colin Edwards - he's an honorary Aussie as his old man is one and he usually has a bunch of family supporting him. Casey is a shy young guy but he's matured over the last couple of years and doesn't rely on his old man quite as much.I also met Marco a week before he died and he was a very polite young guy.

Ken, I'm already planning my trip for 2013 - hopefully. Do you know who organises the medical coverage for this event?

Here's a couple of photo's of a fat hairy bloke and a few stars to get you in the mood:

It's only about 35 days till the Indy race. My wife and I looking forward to making the trip again this year.

Thought I'd see if I could get this thread revived. So who's in this year?

I am in. I have never worked Indy, but I have worked the MotoGP at Laguna Seca since 2007, and am working it this year. I have only been to Indianapolis once, just going through on the 2005 Iron Butt Rally. I have reservations at the Comfort Inn in Brownsburg, which is where USAC had a block of rooms. Any local information would be great, like; should I rent a car and park at the track, or take a cab, or.....? Should I bring a cooler? Chair? I am flying in, so I am limited on what I can bring with me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

You definitely want your cooler and your chair. Maybe something to make some shade for you between sessions. Some stations are near the inside wall on the big oval. Decent shade there. Some stations not so much. It's hot in Indy in August.
Couldnt say about the rental car vs taxi. They provide parking not far from the gate where they had us meet each morning.

I can't believe I missed this when it was originally posted! So bummed, I have wanted to do this for quite a while. Maybe next year.
