ADV Supertrapp IDS2 Core

Decided to keep the stock can on my '03 ADV stock and found a used IDS2 on Ebay for $150. Queried the seller about the core. He wasn't 100% positive but was pretty sure it was "racing" and not "quiet." Anyone know where I can get a quiet core on the cheap, or provide instructions on how to rig one. I saw a thread that referenced a rigged quiet core but could't find any other mention of it. I can MIG and have access to a mill if need be...

Thanks

JLR

One day I'll post something useful to someone else...

JLR,

The race core is straight through, the quiet core has a kink in it's center.

I hear the race core makes some serious dB. My quiet core with 10 discs blows 95 dB. Loud, but not too...

Sorry... no help on the mod or where to get a quiet core....

work your way from the supertrapp webpage to their suppliers. i could order it from a local discounter (catalog) for about $50-60 bucks. waiting for the repack time, or maybe PASSMORE to give me what's left of his after his dogs had their way with the can

if you can look thru and see out the other end, its the racer. can't see thru the quiet core.

IDS2 Core

Thanks. Haven't received it yet. that's why I don't know for sure. I guess I should have said that. Impulse buy. Should have just ordered it new. I have a feeling it's going to end up costing me the same if I have to buy core retail...

you bought the whole thing or just the core? if you bought the whole can, the quiet core should run you about $50 or more bucks so you will still be at an OK price if you need it. i run the race core with 5 discs and it is at 96dBA - barely legal. seems to balance well with the airbox/carb mods - though there is still more tinkering.

Anyone got a picture of the quiet core disc?? I'll make my own,but need an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. My race core is unbelievably noisy - with ear plugs in it's twice as noisy as the stocker with no ear plugs.

Thanks for that - I was told it was just a perforated plate, but that looks a bit more complicated and the whole core is a larger size....oh well,I'll pull it open and put my thinking cap on....

the racing core is, but you must mean the quiet core, which has some type of baffle to reverse the flow once or twice.

Taking a used one apart is a total pain in the ass. Be patiant or you will bend the end and don't use a screwdriver to pry it open. If fugured this out shortly before ordering my second one. WD 40 and lots of wiggeling.
