Let's get this thread back on topic - the 1190 Adventure - and move the discussions about the feasibility and practicality of a lighter twin to a different here:

This bike has a lot of appeal for me....I find myself pounding more pavement miles and gravel/forest road as a percentage of ride time, so for me this bike makes a lot of sense. I don't mind lubing chains, and I'm severely allergic to FD failures, so for me it seems like a strong option.
Same here bikepharmer...on the asphalt pounding and wanting to know if it's coming stateside.
If it is not, I need to know, then I can make plans to buy a Tenere, white one please. Should I keep saving dough in hopes of buying or get the news and start riding a bike that's available?
So, I'm going to see if anyone at the motorcycle show this coming weekend, here in Atlanta, can answer the question, is it coming or not?

Talked to local KTM dealer on Saturday. They have little info but they are getting lots of calls. He believed they might not show up til 2014 either because of production or letting the Euros work out the bugs. The dealer meeting is in a few weeks and he should know more then. Til then it's all speculation.

We often don't get the cool bikes in North America because of all the moaning about unicorns. I think the Europeans must think we're a very weird bunch.

Its coming

I spoke to Southeast Sales in Milwaukee. They said they are flying over for a demo ride for US dealers in June and the bikes will start showing up in August.

Inmate rumors are you can get a 2012 Tenere for $11,500 plus TT&L here around WV and Ohio.

I am glad KTM is making an 1190. We (all riders) need more competition in every size to drive innovation. The Honda NC700X, for example, at $6,999 is a breath of fresh air.

It seems from the photos that KTM has made a more user-friendly bike (yes, I want a fuel gauge) that will be tough as nails. KTM can charge BMW prices for it, but only as long as it is reliable with low maintenance.

Hec, the bottom line is I hope everybody just buys a bike and rides.

They probably don't whine about the lighter dirt machines because for many of the Euro's they don't have any large sections of public land and thousands of miles of dirt/mud/sand that we North Americano's enjoy. They have to travel South to Africa for some of that fun stuff, a major undertaking for many.

3. F800GS - 978

5. CrossTourer - 728
6. Versys 1000 - 281

8. KTM 990 Adventure - 197

I agree, I think this market segment is really hot right now, so it makes sense to throw a big adventure bike into the mix.

Has anyone across the pond, in Europe, ridden one of these?

I would really like to see a PDF on scheduled maintenance, anyone know where to find this info?

Thanks!

Yeah - I heard they will be 2014 models delivered lat next year.

Probably to move the giant inventory of 990s still left up here in Canukia..

It's disappointing that there haven't been any posts here today. This thread has given me a reason to stop on my way from the GS forum to the Airhead forum.

The 1190 is on my short list of "next bikes," and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the motojournalists have to say when the first press ride rolls around. I've missed having something orange in my garage ever since the 400SXC had to be liquidated when the construction loan started running out before my house was finished.
