I imagine it might play hell with the ABS and traction control, since they're calibrated for the 19/17 combo, and going taller will throw off the readings quite a bit.

Might be able to flash or replace the ECUs involved, but I suspect that's not going to be an easy task, or one that's going to be directly supported by KTM.

The marketing guys will want you to do a full upgrade to the higher profit margin R, the legal guys will shit themselves about liability issues, and the engineering guys will be offended that you chose the wrong tool for the job in the first place.

I certainly don't know for sure, but I'd bet the speed/abs rings are the same size on both models. Actual speed would change but maybe the digital display would be pre-programmed for different size wheels like the 990? Just thoughts, I hope to find out soon.

Congrats to you folks finally getting a hold of the 1190! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

On both the 950 SMR and the 950 Adventure I had, you could change the front rim size in the speedo in seconds from 17 to 19 to 21 with the push of the button. I sincerely doubt that KTM has gone backwards.

as you can see from the link I posted the bike it's still at the local dealer, I guess that to register it it's going to take some exra time since it's the first one ever and the data is not in the sistem yet.
I'm hoping to ride it by next week end.
for the offroad test drive I got to wait the snow to melt .....

I have this option on both LC4 640 and LC8 990, so I suppose 1190 will remain this possibility too...

Well, they did with the 990 wrt changing wheel size .

It requires snipping a wire in the very tightly packed instrument cluster plug and adding a switch to change wheel size.

Wicked 1190R Adventure

Beautiful Machine !!!!

Got my eyes on the R for 2014 once it comes to North America to add to my stable. Hopefully by then all the glitches would have been taken care off.

Hopefully no glitches on 2013 model, and the 2014 will have improvements.
One I would like would be adjustable settings for the 3 or 4 preset levels for preload and damping on the model that has the electronically controlled suspension. That way, the premium suspension version would not lose functionality compared to the base model (Does not apply to R).
Another, perhaps non-R model could get two tone paint on tank and side panels so it looks as good as the R.
