Are the grey piece of metal on each siden of the std 1190 or some kind of crash protectors? The R version doesn't have them but have the crach bars instead. And it seems that you need to remove the grey parts on the std 1190 when you want to install the crash bars?

the grey side protectors are made of plasitc, not metal. I painted mine in black....

The gps holder is at the dealers. The bike is going in for 1st service and gps fitting on Monday . Hopefully the luggage won't be too long behind and I can plan trips longer than a day or two.

Look upon them as being 'sacrificial' protectors. They are only plastic so will not really help if the bike goes down hard. If the bike just falls over or is dropped at low speed, the protectors will take the bulk of the impact/damage rather than the tank.

In the UK a tank is about 1,050, the plastic protector is a lot less.......
