There seems to be a small SW bug in the 1190 as the brake light also flashes during hard acceleration. Almost like a shifter light for the ones that try to follow you :-)
A new SW version should be out anytime soon....

Mine doesn't do it!
Wifeys 2012 Duke 690 has a similar whirr with the ignition turned on and that should be the fuel pump.

OK the Aussie version of that is "maaaaate! ya had to do it" - she wont understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R98tzDb3_w

Normally I takes months to decide on a bike - I rode the new BMW 3 times and just walked away - but the 1190 R - the thing was made by god himself - it will be going places and it will be drifting :)

All right, here's a question for Western Australians considering an 1190, either model.

Which dealership would you buy one from, and why?

And where would you have it serviced?

Prepared to go out of town if necessary for a good after-sales experience. Got my Duc from Wayne Patterson at Bunbury, friend's recommendation, and have enjoyed the personal service and back-up.

Actually - greatly interested in input from current owners of KTM twins, whether interested in the 1190 or not. Pls feel free to PM.

Is this goodbye to the Ducati ? I am off to test the KTM tomorrow and if they offer me a reasonable price I'd ride off with one ?

Hilarious...

Our friends at Mattighofen should use that clip as a commercial.
Basically KTM:s take on what a dual purpose bike is all about.
I wonder if anyone still doubts the R:s offroad capabilities....

I guess all those who doubt the R1 off road capabilities?

the question is not if 1190 is capable off road but if it is more capable than the 990? any bike can go off road with the right tires and especially the right rider

Got a ride

Well I rode the 1190 Adventure today , road only but with some good twisty bits.
I asked the store to put it in Sport mode for engine map and suspension, I wanted to get a good idea of the engines performance. My ride thoughts are as follows:-

1) Screen too short in highest position and wind noise was almost the same as my Ducati Multi Strada.
2) The suspension felt very good, I liked it and this was the firm setting.
3) Motor was strong, not as strong as the Multi but not far off. Throttle was a little to sudden for my liking made it a little hard to just cruise.
4) Back brake worked, and the fronts were good !
5) Very flickable nice feel on the road.
6) Contol panel hard to read when changing settings, the black highlighted item made it hard to read.
7) Seat hard, might be OK they do make a softer one.
8) Felt like I was sitting on top of the bike, this is after riding the Multi which feels like you are sitting in the bike.
9) Clutch very very light.

I rode for about 45 minutes got on some tight backroads and felt very confident straight away, finish on the bike was great . I am pricing up Panniers , Heated Grips , top box and GPS mount, also larger screen. Seems this will add another $3,000 to the price tag.

Would be nice if KTM had included Cruise control, Australia has large distances between towns. I did note how long the swing arm is , and the long nylon chain guide, wondering how this will effect chain life and crud ?

Now to test the GSW.

new tires today!
Mitas E-07 Dual sport.. I will post some pictures tomorrow... The guys at "tires for bikes" in Brisbane highly recommended those ones!
Still waiting for the power parts.
Also I will be ordered the Touratech engine guard directly from Germany. The people at the shop here are useless !. I never have that extremely poor costumer service in my life!. Apparently they have too much money and doesn't need more costumers
