Help please with the trip meters.

Every time I switch the bike off, both Trip 1 and Trip 2 reset.

I've been over the manual a couple of times and there is no reset in the menu.

that should not be - trip meters reset when the "SET" button is pressed whilst they are displayed

This is bloody new thing yes I notice it . It's a new sort of regulation 10% up on the speedo.

Can you set front wheel circumference as you can with a 990?

My error is 7.4% over-read - when speedo shows 130km/h, GPS shows 121km/h

Speedo's are always about 10 percent off no? I have tested this a thousand times driving my car past speed camera's at 10% aboven the limit.
Haven't tried it with my bike though.

Maybe this facility had to be ditched to not interfere with traction control? Maybe something to do with new Euro regs. Otherwise, that's a dumb thing to take out...ones and zeros don't weigh much!
US speedos usually over-estimate but not usually that much. With new tires my Dodge 3500 work truck is dead on, as is the wife's Tundra. The 990 has always been about 5% off but I always have my zumo on anyway, so never bothered to set wheel size.

it probably is because of ABS and traction control that the adjustment has been removed.

In my experience BMW and Mercedes speedos are very accurate - within 2%

I have not as yet checked mine with a GPS, but riding today I had the impression that particularly at low speeds the speedo was wildly optimistic.....this then leads on to the question as to whether this inaccurate data is used in the mileage and fuel consumption calculations is a 5.2l/Km showing actually 5.8 l/Km ......

distance and speed don't always have the same error
On my previous bike (XT1200Z Super Tenere), the speedo was 8% optimistic and the odometer was only 2% optimistic - the fuel computer was around 4% optimistic

I tried sitting on it - it's definitely just over 30 mm too high for me - don't quite touch ground when bike is level. But definitely know how you feel about that new beauty - good luck and enjoy yours

Hey Niko,

How do you find that GPS mount?

I should be picking up my 1190 this week and am looking at getting the new Garmin Zumo 350 (or the marine one with topo maps) and tossing up between the mount that goes onto the handlebars or that one.

Anything else you think that is mandatory to get?

Craig

Hi Craig,

No issues at all with this one. I also have the Zumo 350. And As I mentioned before, the tall wind shield makes a big difference
