I'm thinking on buy that one as well!.

I receive a week ago the side carrier from H&B.. I'm waiting for the Glovescout panniers.

Also a photo of the raiser will be nice!.

I'm organizing a tip to Colombia for next year in July. Living from Vancouver if any of you guys are interested! Will be "epic"

This is the confort (heated...) seat, below you can see the plastic protection for the heat.

Here you see the raisers, very usefull expecially with the confort seat that is 2 cm higher than the standard seat, I'm also using the high fended that maybe dosen't look as nice as the original but the protection is fantastic .

With the bike fully loaded doring my trip ro Croatia the bike went down because of very hot asphalt, For a long trip with penniers I suggest this:

I tried to like it but could not. I understand why people buy them. Same reason divorced women by a 3 series BMW to "make a statement". After riding with over 100 BMW riders in the GS safari - then, I realised that most BMW gs riders are only a hair off being Harley rider - they like to cruise along slowly in other peoples dust, with no adventure camping gear, stopping often at hotels to mention the BMW brand name to strangers. They want to be a part of a legend they imagine exists around this long way round bike. Consumers, not racers. The world need average people and the GS is built to make them feel distinguished. BMW ad agency pulls them in like fish on a line.

The 1190R KTM wont speak to you unless you have an offroad background and you like to win enduro or motocross or track - it wont appeal unless it really bothers you that somebody is infront of you on the track, its a totally different bike which came from racing and motocross - BMW GS appeals to the charlie boreman in every office-trapped person. charlie's so clumsy he give dull people hope. KTM 1190 is the real deal. a different bike.

The KTM 1190 is for a minority of racers and I am hoping that most consumers wont get one - hell yeah. I recommend lots of people buy GS. Last thing I want is anybody to realise how good the 1190 really is, and it become common place "standard issue" like GS.

Glad nobody followed me on my test rides.
Can you imagine a world where KTM actually DID give Ewan and Charley the 990 ADV they were after for their Wrong Way Round??

No, me neither.....

There was no 990 ADV in 2004. ;)

Just put all facts on the same line: 950 adv came out in 03, LWR started april 04... It would have been a bad idea to send 2 amateurs around the world on a bike that's only been in mass production for one year.

I often wonder if KTM are constantly kicking themselves for not giving them the bikes.. As I'm 100% positive that BMW sales are up and have been up ever since that series..

When i thought of an adventure bike, I went the BMW route as well.. why? cos it looked fun.. Now I dont have that bike anymore, I was about to get the 800gsa until I saw and read the specs on the 1190adv r and thought this has the hoon feeling i have been missing out on the beemer..

Glad i didnt pick the username bmw_racer or something otherwise I'd have to open another account hehe..

Is the KTM side stand footplate a 990 one as the local KTM dealer didn't know and didn't know if the 990 one would fit.

Do you still look over the screen or do you have to look through it now? Is the screen still adjustable?

The screen is adjustabe, in it's low position you look over it with perfect view. I use the high position on the motorway and the protecion is great, still looking over it but there al little view interference looking down.

Hi Jedogam,

How's is the comfort of the seat. I find the original seat pretty hard for long rides. Does the heat shield come with it?

the seat has 2 additional cm of foam, it's larger in the back and narrower in the front for a better stending position.
I woudn't say that the seat is soft but it's much more confortable than the original, on long rides is very good.
the back seat it's great too, my wife is anthusiastic.....
the plastic shield is home made... it's a stupid 1 mm sheet of plastic shaped and put in to place, a 3 investment. (the best one done ont the bike)
