Because it 's lightweight, has great power, nimble and has great suspension. It's great for commute(excellent for lanesplitting), on back roads and fire roads. And when purchased used was very affordable. Nobody else made bike like that. I tried many.
But I probably wouldn't buy 1190, it's just too big. Looks like caponord.

If the 800 is ever built and it competes with the Beemer & Trumpet they can keep that one too! They had a nich all to themselves, the dirtiest dirt capable Adv bike, and they look to be tossing it. They OWNED the serious off road big bike market, whether the guys rode them in real dirt or not. Now they can share the market for "soft" enduros and leave that hole, maybe Highland will fill it?

Meoni is resting in peace. He would have rode the hell out of this new bike and won on it too.

Maybe it's time for a 1200 class in Dakar...

There are different options for road only commuting and lane splitting, that are not overly expensive either.

The only reason i see is you want the fantastic lc8 engine combined with the windprotection.
But let's be reasonable, the Adventure is ugly (it looks allot less attractive then most other roadbikes, u gotta admit) and lacks all the comfort other brands offer. But again you'l miss the engine then.

When i look at my adv i see a hooligan bike (the engine!!! Holy sweet Mother of God it's brilliant to ride!!),
a considerable good cruiser (seeing what else you can do with it) and an off-road slut (yep, she's a dirty one, allot more dirty then the other bimbo's on the street <3) in one package.

I guess the road-only peeps bought it just for the engine (and the useuall KTM package of goodies ofc).

[QUOTE=pebble35;19661947]The problem KTM face is that they are a business and they want to make profit.

that can be one in two ways - build low volume, limited demand (and therefore high cost) models to meet the demands of the minority or go out and satisfy the majority and build bikes that will sell in higher volumes.

QUOTE]

In reality they will build a "high volume" model and it will still have a high cost.

If they didn't make a profit on the premium prices I paid for the 3 LC-8s I've had they don't deserve to be in business!

The last one they built was on a nearly 20 year old platform, if not older! I forget when that LC-4 first started to appear but there were dinosaurs roaming the Earth at the time!

Didn't they first appear around 1988???

Kind of interesting to me.

I bought a 2011 990 and so far since last August I've changed the following

Triple Clamp
Skid Plate
Shifter
Battery
Front Fender
Tires
Exhaust
Bar
Grips
Light Switch
headlight
footpegs
Clutch
Mirrors
HandGuards
Added rear fuel tank
Levers
rear sprocket
Clutch (Rekluse)
Aux front lights
Winch
This Winter
Larger Front tanks

Front Forks and Shock Reworked and extened

Seat Slimmed down so I can touch the ground with the taller setup.

So the point is by the time I'm done pretty much only the Frame, Engine and Transmission is going to be untouched so what's wrong with the canvas of these new bikes?

I think I could live with them.

Maybe not a lot of cash for you but $1,000 for rally raid tanks and then another $1,500 for the fairing kit is expensive in my opinion.

You need to go test ride a 800XC*... then you will understand the irony of this post in context.

*- heavy, underpowered, close ratio transmission (yah that makes sense for adventure bike???), terrible suspension... it is an awesome commercial(for Icon and for Triumph), but when you get to the end and see the sponsor credits you realize those bikes have $10k+ in upgrades, and more to the point are piloted by talented riders. You can ride anything, anywhere if you want to bad enough, and if your measuring stick is the 800XC then anything KTM makes has more potential.
