Wheels sizes on both bikes are 18/21 respectively, the image on the 1190 is larger than the 990. Not a true comparison.

Both pictures are cut at the wheel axle level so yes, true comparison.

Not sure what we are getting at The picture illustrates some good comparison in overall length and ground clearance but are all the pics taken in the same situation IE same distance from the camera maybe its a dumb question or thought but if one was taken closer then the other then wouldn't the overall comparison be pointless? Maybe this was pointed out before I was just curious

Ground clearance according to KTM:
990R: 301 mm
990 Standard: 261 mm
1190R: 250 mm

More than enough to me, looks like I'm not an tough alpha male
The 1190R is growing on me, same weight as my current 990 and more torque, I like that, sure it's gonna be a great bike.

So IMO a 1190 R is just as dirt worthy as any 990 standard.
Its less than 1/2 an inch lower. Big Deal.

This has me a bit concerned. As much as the 1190 looks like it will be awesome for what I have in mind for it, I am definitely not on board with doing 9 hour / $1000 services. It's what I like about the GSA the most actually, is how I can do my own service for the most part and most of the time the services required are not a ball buster.

+1 KMC1 - it is a KTM thread but I salute your gumption in taking such a big bike off road - just shame that you didn't replace the land yacht with a KTM - even so, good to see you take the beemer out as well and crashing it - battle scars add some cred.

Can I now start winging about the lack of a 170kg, 700cc KTM V twin as well! As much as I like the 1190, I'd love something a little smaller and lighter and dirt worthy, but still able to hike it on the tar with a load.
