San Juan Mountains (Ouray/Silverton) and Moab?
Hi all,
I'm planning a Labor Day timeframe trip to the San Juans (Silverton/Ouray/Telluride) and Moab. Would camp from the truck and enclosed trailer for 4-5 days in both locations and do loop rides. I've searched and read numerous ride reports from these areas but would welcome any comments or advise you feel like offering. Good/bad campgrounds, things we shouldn't miss, etc. We might go to Moab first to get some higher altitude riding (compared to Cinci) before hitting the 13s in CO. Don't know if that would help or not. I ride a TE630 and Dad (68yrs old) will take the KLX250s. We did a street bike trip to these areas in 2008 but we've come recently to dual sport. Thanks. .

Your plan is a good one.
This is a Bucket List moto trip. The elevation and weather differences will be a fun learning experience. I like your loop rides idea with your dad. And y'all are both on good bikes for this trip. Wear DOT knobs and pack some rain gear. |

Sounds like a good plan.
PM me if you need anything while you are in the area.

Hydrate, Hydrate, hydrate.... Great area. Check out the Hot Springs in Ouray. Orvis Hot Springs just north of Ouray is clothing optional. In other words, Hairy Mtn. Girls... And some nice ones too. That area is the best in the US.

Thanks guys! I've heard you can't drink too much out there.
I've been offered advise on campgrounds around Silverton. Anyone have thoughts on Moab? Keep it coming please. .

Sure! I think it is a beautiful place but it is hot in the summer.

Dead Horse state park is pretty, Canyon Lands also beautiful but it can be a longer drive. I dont remember seeing the campground at Arches.
