We have joined the coul club now, I thought about F800GS and Triumph 800XC, either bike would be good, also considered a Ural sidecar, prolly a bit easier in the soft stuff and carry more home comforts.

Those of you unfortunate enough to know me know I love Orange having had the KTM 990 SMR in New Zealand which was nothing short of a weapon, I always wanted a 950 Super Enduro, nearly bought one in NZ but missed out by two weeks on a great bike with only 7500km on the clock and bone stock.

So fast forward to 27th November 2012, our disaster day, this day changed the dynamics of our trip completely.

Firstly, Ellen was damaged, thankfully not too badly, secondly, Chiwi took a hit and will need a new frame, bars, mirrors, headlight and front guard etc.

So that Chinese dude on New Zealand TV for the moss stuff ...... Look I Walk Away

https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=H4ibFq1aup8

So Ellen took his good advice Look I Walk Away from riding ..... and will passenge from here so there will be more off the bike shots.

Wow, that is quite a find, cool bike, did it come with a step ladder for mounting/dismounting?

Where's the passenger pegs?

Got pegs organised, will lower it enough as I have ridden them before so I know how to do it.

Yea pretty happy and great having nice WP suspenders under us for the rougher end of our trip.

Just gotta organise luggage, either Jesse or Caribou I think as we will need the capacity two up, going to do soft roll top bag and two hard side cases.

I like the roll top dry bags in my passenger carrying setup, gives them something soft to lean back on... I stretch a cargo bungee net over top of the roll bag and this works great for holding jacket liners, waterbottles, campsite garbage and ect when you need a quick access spot...

I haven't had much to do with the Jesse system but others complain about the weight they add...

I like the Pelican/Caribou system, especially when you have a center stand to keep the bike level....
I picked up four mesh bags that fit the pelicans perfectly {2 stacked per side} and they work extremely well at keeping things organized :http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Hiking...nizer-sack.jsp...

I always run a tank bag even 2 up and sacrifice some forward movement room for the extra storage and quick access it gives... A pair of tank wing panniers also work well to add some handy storage...

My bike has a 37" seat height but when loaded up with all the gear for 2 people it sets down nicely on the WPs so height is not really an issue... It also has a lot more comfortable plusher ride when all that weight is on board...

It'll be great to see what kind of setup you put together, I'm sure it will be your usual well thought out affair...

Ok, now that you two have made the trip to the" DARK SIDE" (it's ok ,we have cookies & club jackets )

We will expect ORANGE CRUSH up dates, there are oracles, grues, magicians & a wealth of knowledge that's here for the asking

Misery Goat (a mod on here) is back from the entire CA,SA trip, Crashmaster, also a vet of the southern experience, all with tips,
tricks & contacts.

I know that there is a new KTM shop in Santiago Chile that awaits your arrival.

Contact Gotie when you get to Santiago, He is a vet of route 40 & 7, he can get you through Patagonia to the end

You most certainly made the right choice coming to the dark side, our legions are numerous, & world wide

Yeah they are heavier ... not something we need, still prefer Caribou cases but open to any good suggestions

What do you know about the HAppy Trails rack?

Yeah very happy with what we have got and it has the right gear for RTWing without the bigger weight of the ADV ( I am biased and think they look better too )

Just need to get a girlie windscreen to hide behind now.

Castle Hilliberg will take a flight home along with some other luxuries we have had with having two bikes.

We are going to be normal now and get a two man tent, still Hilliberg as they are the best IMO .... no more star wars chair tho

Yes we got Sharons email, I thought Ellen had replied sorry, to be honest our inbox has had more in the last week than the last six months ... and to be really honest the well wishes and support messages etc have made me at times, talk about ADV love, what a serious great group of people we have world wide.

.....and f i n a l l y yeah copy cats ..... couldn't be outcouled by the Ozzies

I don't know about the HT racks for your application, but I steered clear of them for my bike after others in my group had experienced durability problems with them...

I run MS racks on one bike which are no longer made and the HB/ tourtech racks on the other... The HB racks seem to be about the strongest ones out there but for my application the boxes hang out way too far on the muffler side... To improve that mine were cut down and rewelded to bring the boxes in about 2"-3" which makes the back end of the bike about the same width as the Bars...

I'm studying the racks you have on the bike, and it looks like they could be made to work with the Pelicans with a bit of welding... You would need to add cross brace that ties that back of the 2 racks together, this could also tie into the fender as it runs under it to add support .... Your front brace could have a second strut added to run from the bottom front of the bracket to tie into the lower subframe bolt ... Then around the 4 corners of the hoops bolting tabs could be welded on and threaded {8mm} to give you four mounting points to bolt the boxes to....

Wicked Just talked to Andi on Skype

Great to see the new bike pics , Andi would always come and visit me so he could ride my 950SE , he wanted to buy it but the Dutch got the better of him . Ellen is doing really well and getting around with out sticks , good to see. Pity the DR650s are getting sold , mine will have 70,000 miles on it tomorrow . Keep the stories coming , as you know when things go wrong , the adventure begins . Cheers Toddy
