I met Bala at a Karuah river rally a few years ago; even when he found out who I was he was up for a chat......Get well soon, Bala.

(Bala is notorious for being late). So at Oberon we stop, have a pie etc and lo and behold Bala turns up on his X Challenge with Matt in tow.....We all saddle up and Bala is still having a chat and yarn to someone and that was the last we saw of him until.... Come evening at the TTT, everyone is half tanked - we've eaten and getting warmed up around the fire - and out of the dark a lonely X Challenge turns up: Bala , but without Matt. They got lost and managed to go down a slimy dead end trail that Matt could not get out of and so he had to stay the night and get rescued in the morning...Bala has obviously done a few creek crossings - his boots and socks are soaked, so he took them off and in near zero conditions starts wandering beer in hand around the camp saying hello to everyone, telling the story in his hilarious way and making new friends ![]() But in temperatures in single digits and falling Bala is walking in bare feet ![]() In the course of the evening Bala returns to our campfire and decides that his socks need drying... ![]() Once that is done, he takes them off the grill - and Burnie turns up and wants to cook a steak :![]() Everybody watches in silence........ ![]() Burnie gets his meal ready, tucks in and then we tell him... Next morning spots Bala with his camera, taking pix - in bare feet again (we had a frost that night). He shows how cool it his (and how cool HE is) by standing in ice ![]() Looking back, one now wonders about circulation in the feet...... viz screwed with this post 05-12-2012 at 03:42 PM |

Never met Curryinahurry but have heard some of the stories before and he's one of the guys I am looking forward to meeting.
Fingers crossed you can pull through this one Bala and we can bump into each other down the track somewhere. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

Never met the man, read his posts, particularly his eastern euro ride report, came across very much the bon vivant with a strong sense of corp d'esprit and all round good will to all men and women, and of course loves to ride. Hope very much to read and enjoy more posts from his keyboard. Come roaring back mister.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hell of a thing to have to go through, no matter how common or routine Doctors make it out to be. All strength to him.
