Laugh Mile Zero and Back Again

"Plans for the Deadhorse ride have begun"
That was the content of a update I recently made on one of those other social network sites and it generated some puzzled questions. I don't think I'll have the same problem here. I'm new to this "adventure riding" stuff but have over 30 years of on road riding experience. My last big trip was in 2010 when I did the Four Corners on a Honda ST1300. That was a great trip on a great road bike. But for this trip I wanted to have something that would be better suited for unpaved road encounters. You know something smaller and lighter, so I got a BMW R1200GS. Spent the last month or so outfitting it and learning to ride off the pavement. I now have begun my trek from Key West to Alaska and back. In general my plans are go east as far as I can (less that 20 miles), then south as far as I can (about 400 miles), then west as far as I can ( a long way), then north as far as I can (an even longer way). OK I'm now rollin and I'll see what kind of responses I have on this site.
