No shifting - the shift lever just flops around and moves in and out of the engine. The clutch is working, though.
I just mapped it out and it doesn't seem to be far at all. I'll get the bike there this morning. Again, thanks for all your help CJ. Couldn't have done this without you. Quote:

That suggests that the shifting rod is either cut in or the the cogs gone for a toss. I hope it's a small fix.

Motorcycle fixed and for only Rs100. That's $2.00 US. Not too bad. On top of that, the nice people from Manmohan Auto Store showed up at my hotel afterward to ask if everything was ok with the bike. I like this kind of service.
![]() Being that it's noon already, though, I won't head out for Manali now because it's really hot, about 110F, and there's lots of traffic. I'll get all my stuff organized and head out early tomorrow morning, say around 5:00. In the meantime, a few pics of the harsh conditions I'm dealing with here: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Life is rough.

On the Road...
Hi Tony,
I'm flying out to India tomorrow and heading straight to Manali to commence my summer job with http://www.blazingtrailstours.com/ The first tour leaves Manali for Leh on Monday (18th June) so be sure to come and say hello if you see us on the road. I'll be the short bloke at the back wearing a blue BMW Rallye suit. I spent three months in the region during the first year of my RTW trip back in 2006. It's a magnificent region to ride a motorcycle in and I for one can't wait to return. Its so good that I titled Chapter 8 of my blog 'Ladakh: Best motorcycling in the world?' If you need anything for your bike in Manali then Anu is your man. He's over the bridge in Vashist. See you on the road Adam

Mr. JediMaster, I'll definitely keep a lookout for you & your group. You'll know it's me because I'll be the only guy wearing a black Klim Adventure Rally suit who has a Samsonite suitcase strapped to the back of his Bullet. I'll try to post a pic of myself all geared up.

A few more words about The Altius Hotel and the staff. The hotel, as you might have guessed from the previous pictures, is very nice; some might say posh. But really, it's the staff that makes the hotel. The service and friendliness was over the top. They were ever helpful and always professional. While I was out they cleaned my room, which is normal, but they took the extra step of washing the road-stained shirt I wore the day before. Even the hotel owner, a kindly older man, came out to say 'hi' and ask how I was doing.
The Altius Hotel is on the road that goes through Chandigarh heading toward Manali. It gets my strongest recommendation for any road weary traveller. Do stop in if you are passing by. And now, a few pics of the even helpful staff. ![]() ![]() With my day free, I saw a few of the sights around town. Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And finally, my taxi driver for the day
