Thanks for all the good wishes!
Jack has shown remarkable improvement! First 7 days wasn't looking good but in the last 3 his memory has improved to the point where he understands what happened...for a while... He has started to filter his thoughts and conversations with him are now conversations!
He has a ways to go but things are looking very hopeful.

Now he has to deal with his family not wanting him to ride again.
It is a tough one as I understand he can't afford another head injury....

Bah.. my head can't really be injured. GOD HIMSELF threw the entire planet Earth at my skull and he could only keep me down for a few weeks. I'm back same as ever.. frankly I'm probably much better looking.

Ok, let's face it.. nothing could have made me better looking.

I just found this thread today. Thanks to everyone who commented for the well wishes and while I'm not much of a religious man.. Good words never hurt anyone and neither have prayers. Thanks!

I am a head/brain injury survivor myself (a bad motorcycle accident back in 1972). Glad you are back and with the world Johnny X. That helmet saved your life as mine did when I had my accident. Get better and keep on keeping on dude.

Note to the rest of the people here on ADV rider: If hearing about Johnney X, MTgrrl and myself doesn't keep you wearing a helmet (we are all survivors of brain injury) then I just don't know what to say to convince you that helmets are a good thing. Please wear at least a helmet even if you are not a ATGATT type.

Namaste'

It's good to see a happy ending. Learn from mistakes if any were made and keep refilling the tank.

I just came back to this post tonight after having a conversation with another person on a mailing list for vintage bikes. He seems to want a little more dirt in his life and I am sending him some .gpx for trails in his area.. and I told him "Get thee to ADV. They ain't ALL bad."

It's been a long time since I had that accident but I came back to the thread anyway..

What the post after my reply said - Wear a damned helmet you friggin moron - is the absolute truth. I'd be dead instead of typing at you if I had not.

And someone else would have to drink my PBR.. and do everything else..

My wife and I bought a farm the day before I had my accident. Since then I came out here.. built a house.. built a barn.. then I built another barn and fenced up a couple of acres and ..

She'll think of something next.

When my garage gets built that helmet will be mounted on the wall like a trophy. A reminder.

When the young and dumb ask me why it's there I'll tell them.

Don't be dumb boys and grrls.. wear the helmet and good luck to all of you!
