Anyone with deep pockets want Krauser Heads?

Spotted in Fleabay UK. No relationship with the vendor, just interested to see these come up.

I'm curious what they'll bring since I've also got a set I'm considering selling - complete with pistons, pushrods, rod bolts, and instructions.

Hey, those are pretty cool, Rob! Thanks for pointing them out!

I'm afraid they'll go for waaaay more than I can afford - shipping alone from GB to here won't be cheap, but I'm watching them anyway.

Why bother with these?
Can you not get similar results with a 336 cam, better carbs and good tuning?

I mean, other than them being totally cool....

Anyone got some tech specs on these heads? I'd love to see how the 2-rockers/4-valves are actuated with just 2 push rods.

Hell, I wouldn't mind casting/machining some.. some day.

If you spent the money for the Krauser's getting some airheads ported by someone reputable with a flow bench, you could get a lot better results a lot more reliably. I had no idea so many people think they are cool. I have never liked the looks of them. I have heard mostly bad things about them. None of my favorite beemer tuners ran them for not working very well. Has anybody had much racing success with them? Over the years I rarely see anybody running them. It would be one thing if most fast beemers had them but I have noticed just the opposite. At least somebody will enjoy them. I would have had a set years ago if I had seen them working.

Duncan McKee ran a super fast airhead racer here in NZ back in the early 90's.

I guess that that reason people haven't used these extensively for racing is, as you say, you can get more bang for your buck flowing, porting & doing other performance mods.

Remember that when these originally came out (early 80's) you effectively spent that same money to purchase as you did to buy the bike.

They also have a reputation (I understand) for being hard on cams, followers, & valves.

The Classic Bike Mag that is mentioned in the EBay blurb was interesting reading. I have a copy in PDF if anyone is interested. Non technical though.

Great input Bab. That's the other thing about them: After spending megabucks just to get them, then you needed to spend mega bucks getting them to breath better. Out of the box they were an small improvement over stock but that isn't going to impress the fast guys. I have heard the rocker arms have issues too.

Did not sell as the reserve was not met. The bidding went to UKŁ1,130 (approx. US$1,750).

I'm not suprised that the reserve was higher than that. Usually, when a decent set of K's are for sale over here, they bring very healthy money and some of us think theyre worth it.

Some of you might be down on Krauser's but if youre into vintage farkles, theyre one of the koolest modifications you could possibly run and I certainly wish I had a set on my bike. I've heard enough reports saying that they can be made to run big miles, that I wouldnt be too afraid to have a well serviced set. I just think theyre super Kool.

OTOH, it's been well known since the mid 80's that a set of ported BMW heads from CC Products/San Jose could and a high compression top end would end up would outflowing the Krausers and save you some $$$ and complication in the process.

Aint it nice to have choices?

Of course they’re not practical. If you had the money to throw at them though, they’re a super cool period modification. Besides, why do we ride these bikes anyway? I could throw a lot less cash at a lot more bike than the Airheads I have... Some things you just stop justifying.
