Triumph Speed Triple; Who Makes The Best Aftermarket Seat?
Who makes the best aftermarket seat for the Speed Triple?
I just got a 2008 Speed Triple and put about 700 miles on it over 3 days. I'm saddle sore, and want to find a seat that fits me better. I keep sliding forward and having the stock seat create a pressure point on my inner thigh. I think I could build up the stock seat with some foam, but I don't want to make it look ugly either. I'm already wearing bicycle shorts with gel padding, so I'm not sure what else I can do besides upgrading seats. Please take a minute to vote, and post photos if you've got them. Thanks for your help!

Crap; wrong forum
; this should have been in Road Warriors. If a Mod would be so kind to move this, I'd really appreciate it.

You may want to give it a try without the bike shorts.
You could start with the http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/ and if you don't like it replace it with one of the choices above. I had Luimoto do a custome cover for mine. They are very reasonably priced and could be done over a DIY seat.

I'm kinda shocked to hear negative reviews for the Corbin. I've got one one my other bike and think it's ok (probably a B+) but don't really want to shell out that kind of money again if I don't have to.

I've ridden with and without the bike shorts. The bike shorts definitely help me, but your results may vary...

I'm not going to vote because I'm looking to replace the stock seat too. I did 1100 miles this past weekend and my only issue was the seat. I'll be subscribing to this thread and hope to find a nice comfy seat soon.

I have a corbin on my '01, and it is all day comfortable. People I know who have the Sargent's on the newer models really like them. Triumphrat.net has a lot of info as well.

Thanks! I posted a thread on there as well, but they don't offer the Poll feature (at least that I can figure out) and people don't seem to participate as much. I figured AdvRiders would be more likely to have put a lot of miles in the saddle, and I would value their opinions more.

I did this on my Street Triple, but I assume the same applies: get it Spencerized!
http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php Send the seat to him, he replaces all the foam with fancy supracor, makes it comfortable to your preferences, and sends it back. Seat winds up looking stock but feeling great. He's done both my ST1300 and Street Triple, and my ride time is no longer limited by my butt on either of them! Doesn't charge much either (around $100, if I remember right). Very highly recommended.

My vote goes to a custom repadded/refitted seat. Not cheap, but I have had great results.
I wanted to use my last Corbin as a fishing boat anchor!

I had a Corbin on my '01 and tried to convince myself to like it due to the cash outlay, but the fact is it sucked ass - hard as a rock and shaped completely wrong for a sporty bike, like a horse saddle, high in front and sloped back into a bowl. It completely changed the rider triangle and destroyed my confidence. Once I went back to stock and lost that perched-on-top feeling, I could rail once again and felt tucked down into the bike. YMMV, of course.
And yes, I took it on some multi-week rides covering tens of thousands of miles. Shows you how commited I was to give it a fair shake. Sometimes I am not smart.

I hate to be all "form over function", but that would have to be the most comfortable seat in the world for me to buy it. Wow, that is ugly
![]() The slope must be a Triumph trait as my '98 Daytona seat (same as '97-'01 Speed Triple) is comfy enough for long hauls, but the few emergency stops I've had in the last 12 years have probably rendered me infertile. I don't have much input other than that I would stay away from Corbin. I had ridden another guy's '99 Daytona and liked the seat, so I tried to get a seat from them and their customer service was horrendous. Tons of excuses as to why it never shipped, etc. and it turned out they never built it due to a material shortage because I had specified a certain covering and they kept trying to cover their tracks. If they'd just said, "Hey it'll be a couple months" I would have been fine, but I hate it when a company lies to you because they have your money and try to find ways to keep it. I ended up getting my money back but I would never deal with them again. I've heard many similar stories especially from people who ordered seats in specific colors/material/piping/etc. I guess if you got one of their standard seats that was already boxed and ready to ship, you might be OK.
