Their basement is like JM here, but with less elegance and erudition.

Frankly, I have a R1150RS I was going to sell and then after reading this and some research, I decided to hang one off the R and skip the Ural.

But then again, it has the dreaded servo brakes....
Wait till you price a car for that BMW. When I did I was shocked at the costs associated with it. I bought an 07 Gear Up for less than 1/2 of what it would have cost me to convert a GS to a hack (if I already owned the GS)

So far, in 6 months and 3000 Km I've had exactly zero issues. My 07 came to me with 22000 Km and was the previous owner's only vehicle for 2 years in upstate NY so it's seen more weather than most will see in a lifetime.

Good luck to you.

Hey Tom,

It just goes to show ignorance and intolerance is alive and well on both sides of the fence.

What Happened ?

Would like to say our GU-11, bought in 2012. has well over 10,000km. It is ridden mainly by my BRO & myself. We bought it together & bought it to ride off pavement.
Off pavement means all the levels of DS riding. This is our second GU.

Had a little jet issue but the GU is passed between 10,000+ ft & sea level.
Now we know what to use. Just us needing to learn.

Learning about the tough low hp, high energy Ural is the real secret to trouble free Uraling. These Urals new & used are not instant ''turn key & forget it'' machines.

My term ''trouble free'' is not to mean maintance free. We keep a log on this GU. We keep up w/ the required maintance & head off other suspected issues.

Honestly, never heard of folks in SS having the ''ism'' problem unless you mean comradism. But perhaps all this is just in the eye of the reader.

I had never known or seen the basement and soap box places here or at SS until someone posted about them in this thread. After looking at them, it appears to be what those areas are for, off color humor and low brow talk. We're all adults here, so if you choose to go to those areas, then why whine about what's there?? Does those places represent what either of the sites are about? I personally don't think so........... And this is the internet after all, you don't have to look. I use all the sites for tech info and I do once in awhile get involved in some flaming, it's the nature of the environment............ah whatever.............

Ever wonder if some have forgot how to debate ?

I find political name calling much like oral farting, it comes from a different place but still stinks from either side.

Politics seem less & less about reasons behind the name calling & more about jumping on & then off the sticky soap box, which is rappidly attracting more flys than voters.

Honestly, I had not read those post. I am more of rider/reader who likes to work on ''fix it'' jobs. I do vote & do my own research but not on MC sites for political advancement.

I still do not consider SS members in your ''isms''.

Soapbox should be renamed Redneck United.
