I`ve seen some shite posted on the Internet by clueless and feckwit Ural 'armchair experts' over the years but the OP on this Thread takes the biscuit for verbal diarrhoea and talking with your dick hanging out.
Howdy Tarka,

Yes your Ural managed to cart my fat arse all over the UK, northern France and most of Belgium a year ago, and its still running, how the fuck can that be. Seriously, if you visit with Thierry whilst in Belgium do say "Howdy" to him his wife Patrick and his wife for me. Oh and don't forget to tip a Belgian Raspberry beer for me while there.

Howdy AlanCT,

Don't pay any attention to the Tarka twit, he's just a Limy wanker who doesn't know shite about Ural's, he's dumb enough to own two of them; Oh phuck, I also fit into that category.

Apalling...

The level of discourse on this site has really dropped. I'd love to see all the internet tough guys meet in person and see if the insults fly as freely with the other guy within arm's reach.

A Ural is a entirely unique vehicle,

No other manufacturer of any type of street legal vehicle does what they do, build a new vintage vehicle. Sure there are retro styled bikes and and cars but they are modern vehicles that just look old. Look how much different the new Mini, and Fiat 500 are form the original vehicles.

It's nothing but a fools errand to try to compare a Urals price, performance, or reliability to a modern vehicle when they are not one, nor are they intended to be one.
The cost of a Ural is biased on economic realities, "value" is purely subjective to an individuals wants and needs.
The performance of a 40 hp, 750cc sidecar rig should be self explanitory.
The reliability and limitations of a new vintage vehicle in a modern environment must be understood and respected.

No matter how much they have and continue to improve quality, it will never be a Modern vehicle.

To complain that a Ural isn't what it isn't is absurd. Choose a bike that fits your desires, don't try to force a bike to fit them.

Lots of people have great keyboard karate skills, but face to face is always different.

"Russian Ruble US Dollar Exchange

350000.0 RUB = 10393.6212861 USD

350000.0 Russian Ruble = 10393.6212861 US Dollar

(as of 3rd June 2012)"
I'm used to living abroad and money conversion has become second nature. Cob, you are spot on with your conversion.

Here is an interesting factoid though. At $14k, a Gear-Up is not that much more expensive than if bought in Russia. Not a bad deal at all.

However, price check a loaded BMW 5-series in Germany versus here. Or an Audi A6. Or a Mercedes E-class. Or a VW Touareg. Or a....awww screw it. They are all cheaper here in the US than in Germany. How much sense does that make? None, but it sure does make the Ural look like a better deal.

Oh, and all this sniveling about maintenance prompted me to take a few photos today. Sidecar Sunshine, aka Misses Donkeys, tackled some awfully "tough" Ural maintenance today.

And when it was all said and done, it cost her 40 minutes and a scratch to change the oil, final drive oil, and do a complete shakedown on it.

So quit your crying and man up!

Howdy RidingDonkeys,

Now that fine lady is a keeper, just the sort of gal a feller needs on a Ural trip into the hinterlands.

The price in roubles for the gear up equates to 6568.45

The price from the UK's main dealer/importer for the same bike with the chait on the other side, so no 2wd etc is 10495.00

So, you have nearly 4,000 for the extra shipping, import duty and removing the 2wd gubbins and dealers profit etc.

I wont comment on that but shall leave it up to others.

That's the price you pay for driving on the wrong side of the road. Not trying to be a dick, but it is the harsh truth. That cost diminishes with mass production, but Ural is no mass production vehicle. When you look at their market share that actually goes to right-hand-drive countries, it almost doesn't make sense to sell there at all.
