Aha, my bad. I only looked at your location. Thanks for the correction, the excellent russian road pics and your detailed rebuttal. I still don't agree but I think we've nothing new to say.

My words were that I've never seen a moving Ural in Russia. That's just a fact from a year that I spent there. I'm glad you saw some.

Same here. Been looking at those and the GU for YEARS and if I had the money...
Does that make me crazy?

Nope. I pay more for gas because of gouging.
You paid more for your Ural because your carbs and electronics are Japanese; your forks, brakes, and ignition is Italian; your gears are German. You are paying extra for that "quality". Oh yeah, plus the Rooskies are gouging on Urals, too.

And to top it off, I get the same 25 MPG on my rig as you do on your new rig.

Nah....that's crazy talk.
Yes.
They are. Especially when you outsource all the parts to foreign sources in the name of quality.
Urals were built on a replacement enconomy theory. If something broke, you replaced it - CHEAPLY.
But now stuff still breaks and you have to replace it at a crazy prices. A Ural Denso alternator is about $600!!! That's insane for something that's normally $150. I can buy a whole bunch of Ukrainian/Russian alternators for $600.

I have just thought of a huge advantage Ural have over most other manufacturers. To 'make' a new model all they have to do is get a new paint job! Imagine a black and white splodgy paintjob and it could be the Ural Cow! or orange background with black striped, the Ural Tiger!!

Are Urals any better than they (and Dneprs) ustabe?!?!?!
http://www.cossackownersclub.co.uk/l...orld_trips.PDF

http://bcozz.multiply.com/tag/peter%20parsons

Anyone out there have 'nads enough to drive a stock Dnepr flathead on a 12,000 mile trip across Australia, SE Asia, and the Indian sub-continent into the mountains of Nepal???
And that, they said, was their best rig!!!

I think he's put another 2000 miles on it hauling it from repair shop to repair shop.

For some reason, that's normal on new Urals. Why it's not a recall issue, I have no idea. Just ride the heck out of it and it'll eventually go away. Or put on some cheap Russian K-68 carbs.

You are completely correct about this and I was wrong. Aeroflot recently got these planes and now 10% of their fleet is Russian planes. I should have checked Wikipedia.
Tragically the SJ100 demonstrator crashed here recently, killing everyone on board, including many Indonesian airline representatives.

Guys,

Maybe it's about time you abandoned the keyboard and went for a long ride.

Is there anybody out there, who could turn this epic thread into a movie ? Or maybe a TV saga such as Lost, 24, Sons of Acne, or maybe Dr Strangelove ?

It is positive,

It's the unnecessary disparaging comments about nations, Ural owners, and personal opinions stated as facts that are not productive.

Do you not recognize the difference between constructive criticisms and ranting attacks?

For example,

1. I have found Urals to be a poor value, unreliable and unsuitable for my needs because................

2. Urals are overpriced pieces of shit, built by Russians who can't build anything right, and owned by delusional deniers because............................

Understand?
