Faceshield cleaning question
I used to use the Plexus and I loved it.. then I bought a National Cycle windshield and I was given some National Cycle windshield cleaner... Out in Montana on a long ride, my can of plexus died and I had run headlong into the swarm of evening bugs that we all love... In a pinch, I used the windshield cleaner... I have NEVER had anything remove bug guts that quickly.. the Plexus even had to sit for a minute to remove all of it but this stuff doesn't.. spray it on, wipe it off... they are GONE... You get a glass refill bottle (not recommended to carry) and a small spray bottle with a microfiber cloth in the package... perfect for luggage...

I've always gone lateral, or side to side. It just seems more efficient than up and down, I.e., fewer strokes. But up and down would work if you always go that way. I do aircraft windshields up and down because I can't reach all the way across to the other side. Start out lightly with plenty of juice and always be using a clean section of the cloth. You wanna make sure you're not rubbing dirt or other abrasives into the plastic.

Hydrogen peroxide!!
Hydrogen Peroxide works AWESOME on bugs. Buy a small spray bottle at Walmart (less than $1) and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide (super cheap). I carry that and a small microfiber cloth. When you stop, spray it on the faceshield and watch the foaming action of the HP breaking down the proteins in the bugs. Works better than anything else I have ever tried, it's easy to get, and super cheap. I've been using it for years.

amsoil
a couple years ago I bought some oil for my bike. My buddy that sells amsoil threw me a can of "miracle wash" and asked to let him know how it worked. spray it on, let it bubble a bit and wipe it off w/ a microfiber. great stuff. use on the bike, helmet, cars. A can goes a long way. Leaves a rainx effect when done with zero glare. wife liked it on her van so much she uses it on the house windows. she says they stay cleaner longer(????????) what ever. $8/can I buy 1 can per year

I keep some Plexus in the tank bag. Other than that, I just use spit and a paper towel stuffed in my jacket pocket between stops.

I use a spray called Spray-Away. Kind of hard to find, but about $4.00 a can. Foams and will loosen the bugs. Clean off with a microfiber cloth.Oh, and it dosen't hurt to wash the microfiber cloth every couple of years (or more often).

Or if you are riding at night without anything at hand and cant see a damn thing you can always spit on it and use your shirt as a cleaning agent
I even used water from a not so nice roadside small water pool once. As long as you get it really wet anything works.Of course only to be used on those unexpected night adventures

I wouldn't be so sure. It is an oxidizer and relatively aggressive. Of course the concentration you get in the store is not so high, but I would keep it away from anything but the face shield (which people seem to have tested for long-term usage).
It is very efficient in bleaching pretty much anything, including skin, in higher concentrations. With low concentrations it just takes longer.

I even used those brown winsheild towels by the squeegee. Hell, I have even used the squeegee itself on the visor. Scorpion, Shoei both. I always keep a few paper towels that I get from gas stations, bathrooms, food joints, or ones from home and a bottle of water for screens and drinkin'. |
