Tow strap?

Last summer I met a guy on the side of the road with a broken throttle-cable so I pulled out some tools and hacked the handle-bar enough so that he could pull on the cable with a vice-grip to try to ride it home - then he ran outta gas and then a thunderstorm kicked-in and I felt so bad because I had no way to tow him to the nearest gas-station and I didn't have any spare fuel or any way to transfer it either ...

Now I carry spare fuel (MSR fuel-tank) but haven't got a strap - I'll take your ideas and get a strap setup for future cases like this!

Guys, buy yourself some paracord.

It is super cheap and packs down very small. I've used it several times to tie the bike down during towing. I also used it to get a tow from a car.

Here is a video clip of when I used it to get a bit of a tow after I fried my clutch plates.

You can even buy a paracord bracelet thing with a clevis on the internet. They come in different lengths and say if you use it in a survival situation you can get a free replacement. But I don't have one, I think they are neat.

I thought about the paracord bracelet, but they are expensive, short, and probably uncomfortable to wear under motorcycle jacket. When you actually need the stuff, it will probably be too short to be of much use.

I have used paracord quite a bit though. I lost count how many times I've strapped down a bike with it for transport. (~7ish?) While I do use it generously, not one strip of cord has ever ripped.






And you never know when you need it to strap down stuff - in this case extra fuel.


Paracord is one of my best purchases. It's versatile, super-strong, packs down very small and light and it's dirt cheap.
