the stock aluminum one that comes with the adventure package? its a SWmotech knockoff along with the wrack, it will work with the twisted throttle stuff. IMO spend the money and get the touratec one with the oil cooler relocate, its better and only about $50 more and will work with the stock engine guard.

I would look at Adventure Moto Stuff's Engine Guard, It's only $220USD. And boy does it take some abuse. The one on my Strom is my second one. I replaced it since the original one had the bolts on the bottom not on the side. The newer version is holding up much better. Nothing needs to be relocated.I like it since it sits out front of the header so that there is crumple room before the engine is touched. Oil changes are easy with the removal of the two rear bolts and the plate swings forward enough to get a pan in. It does come with attachments to the engine bars of your choice. They've protected my Strom for 100,000kms.

Eduro Guardian

I'm pretty sure the Enduro Guardian works with any of the aftermarket crash bars. No affliation, just a satisfied customer. I've had mine on for two seasons and its performed flawlessly, the construction is top notch and I use it hard. Check them out... Prices are good too.

There is a BMW guy in Kitimat that makes great Aluminum stuff. I may be able to dig his name up. He is listed as a vendor on this site Koloa or something close.

hmm im liking that enduro guardian stuff, the stainless one is sweet, do they not cave in as easily as the stock SWM ripoff? $100 cheaper than the touratec leaving room for that cool lift kit he offers!

I have a SW Motech skid plate on my 2012 DL650, but alot of people seem to like the Yann's enduro guardian. Looks very beafy and reasonably priced. The Motech mounts directly to the engine unlike some of the other plates.

You will not be disappointed by Yann's Skidplate. His attachment points are on the frame, not the engine and the gauge of metal is heavy enough that it makes a nice, resounding "bong" when it hits the baby heads. It's a good quality product, worth every penny.

yeah i have the 11' with adventure package and those flimsy skid plates are good for nothing more than gravel, they dent in and bend so easy, and i know for a fact you cant lift your bike on them... i don't know how many times i've had to pull mine to bend it flat again.

i have a 2011, the 12' is different, the 11 mounts to the crash bars, but its the mounting at the rear that sucks, bends to easily.

Had the SW Motech on my 08 and found it wasn't up to the task. Replaced it with the enduro guardian. It's far beefier than the Motech. I got the highway pegs that go along with it and they're pretty nice as well. No affiliation with them. I just like their stuff.

+1 - I've got the aluminum skidplate and highway bars on my 2012 Wee, and I cannot say enough good things about them. A top-notch product made in the USA!

+1 on this skidplate..... Really covers the sump also. Also just cut a hole below the drainglug and no need to drop it at all. Use a K&N filter and remove d/p and oil filter w/o taking anything loose. Lots of room in there. Worst that can be said for it is that it reduces your ground clearance just a little compared to some types. tough and well made.

How much of a weight difference between the steel and aluminum plates?
