What Does A Texan Need To Know......
To live in Illinois?
Looks as if I'll be moving to the Peoria area by the end of the year, so what wisdom can y'all share? Are y'all gonna confiscate my guns/neuter my dogs/make me ride a Harley? Should I train the dogs to pull a sled through the snow? ![]() Seriously, any laws relating to motorcycles/automobiles/guns/dogs/everyday life that are unique to Illinois that I need to know about before I'm having a conversation with the local police? Any off-ride/dirt road riding in Central IL? I think I've found, oh, 6 or 7 curves on my trips up there so far. Anything else I need to be warned about? After all, I'm warning you that I'm coming.

For the gun stuff Google Illinois FOID. That will take you to the Illinois State Police site.
For answers about laws and drivers license info Google Illinois Secretary of State. The above two sites will dazzle you. ![]() There is dual sport riding in central Illinois. It is low quality but it exists. A guy on this site said that we will ride 50 miles to get to a gravel road with a puddle in it. He didn't exaggerate much. Good luck with the move.

![]() Most of my off-road riding here around Houston involves riding places I'm not supposed to be, and looking out for the police, so it can't get a lot worse.

Y'all barbecue pork or beef?
I know in the Carolinas, BBQ is pork. As you head west, somewhere around the Sabine, it turns to beef brisket. I've thought about trying to find the actual demarcation line, but I'm fat enough already.

The only thing you need to know is to call Mike and I when you head to the northern twisties in southwest WI
![]() Oh, I hear there's a lady round those parts that throws a killer party. Haven't made it there myself yet but it's the stuff legends are made of.

Good luck on the BBQ pursuit. I quit trying to find BBQ once I go over the Red River....You think parts of Texas are flat, you have not seen anything flat until you get in that area. At least we have Mountains, Hill Country, Oceans, lots of lakes. Hope it is a great job.... There is NO job that would make we want to leave Texas. NONE.

I think the brisket line runs north south, so you should be OK as long as you don't go as far west as WA, OR, and CA. My parents came from the midwest, and had to make the change to Tri-Tip when they got out west. You have to special order brisket in CA, and they look at you like yer orderin' ground hooves.
I thought dual sporting in IL meant riding one of these (note mirrors): ![]() Destination? |
