Tent Space Double Check project
Along with Ride Reports, the crown jewel of ADVrider is the Tent Space list (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149585). 1200 inmates have offered a place to stay to other riders since sometime in 2006 and it’s been used countless times. Unfortunately, some of those offers for space are no longer good. People have moved, found a new hobby, or simply forgot they made the post in the first place.
Inspired by the maps created by SteveJonesMO (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=776925) I've begun a project to Double Check all the tent space offers to make sure the users are still active, that the offers are still good, and that Steve's maps are as current as possible. But it's not just me. A small team of volunteers is helping to contact all the Tent Space hosts. More volunteers will be joining us as the project ramps up. At the beginning of the Tent Space Double Check project, only about 13% of all the Tent Space offers were up-to-date. Specifically, 87% were more than year old. ![]() The initial goal of the Tent Space Double Check project is to bring that number up to 90% in one year--by June 1, 2013. Thereafter, the goal is to reach and maintain the Tent Space offers to 95% up-to-date. If you're a Tent Space host, you'll probably be hearing from one of the volunteers. If you're not already a host, now is a good time to sign up and give back to the community we're all part of. Jamie

Three weeks into the Double Check project, three of us have made steady progress and have made the Tent Space maps almost 20% up to date.
![]() We're well on the way to reaching the goal of 90% up to date by June 1, 2013. I feel confident we'll be able to reach it even sooner than that once we ramp up the work. Thanks go to Trialsbikeadam and Primal Haj for their help so far with the project. Thanks also to stevejonesmo for his work on the maps and keeping them current and accurate. Also, special thanks to bluesurf who is just a regular ADV member who has sent me a handful of PM to help update the map and locations as he travels the US. Jamie

Jamie's out of town on an extended ride but just to let everybody know the project is carrying on nicely and the Tent Space data just keeps getting better and better. Jamie will be back in early August and I'm sure will then update the chart.

We're coming up on 30% up-to-date! ![]() Now that we're past the trial period and worked out a few bugs, I've opened the project up to volunteers. Here's my request in Inmates, if you're interested in helping. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...3#post19306313 Jamie

Diane is right. With the addition of a few volunteers, we've picked up the pace and passed 35% up-to-date, well on our way to the initial goal of 90% up-to-date.

A few huge days of checking Tent Space posts has put us right at 42% up-to-date.
![]() We're moving along quickly. I expect that within the next couple of months, more than 90% of all the Tent Space posts will have been checked. We've removed probably around 100 non-responsive Tent Space offers, and numerous other people have updated their location and other information. Steve is keeping pace with the maps, and just released another update to the maps yesterday. Excellent work, gang. Jamie

Jamie's too modest to brag, but I'm not!
Thanks to Jamie's leadership and assistance on this, and several volunteers, we are now at 55% for Current Tent Space posts! ![]() Thanks, team! |

Brilliant work mate
Gotta say, I *know* how much work things like this can be. Jamie, hat's off to you mate. If I had multiple hats, they'd be off too. Great work, and thanks.

As the "Current" number is about to go over the two/thirds mark, I just want to comment on what a remarkable achievement that is, given that we were at 15% less than 3 months ago.
Mad props to "Jamie Z and the Pips" : :

We're approaching 70% up to date.
![]() Almost all the remaining 30% are in Pending status, which means that they've been messaged, but we haven't heard back. In my experience, people either message back within a day or so, or not at all. The next couple of weeks we will be removing huge numbers of Tent Space offers whose owners no longer respond. Jamie
