Kansas City to Somewhere in Alaska and back in 30 days.

I have always wanted to visit Alaska.
9 months ago I started planning the trip.
I leave tomorrow, Friday June 15th 2012.
It will be a solo trip, my wife can't get the time off work for that long and doesn't want to "camp out" for 30 days.
I ride a 08 DL650 (V-Strom) which I have only dropped once at speed.
I will writing a journal and posting pictures as I find Wi-Fi along the way.

My journal is at
It currently lists the Bike and gear I am taking.
There is a page that has my tentative route on it.
I will be using a SPOT to map where I am and that will also be on that page.

I am 50 years old and over weight. But I figure you only get to live once so I better enjoy it.
I look forward to meeting new people and enjoying the adventure.

be looking forward to your posts

I am just down the rode from you at Fort Riley. I am planning an Alaskan ride next summer on my Harley Ultra, leaving around this time period but planning on riding the ferry back to Bellingham. I have driven the Alcan a couple of times when I was stationed at Fort Greely for about 7 years in the 90's. I hope to find a riding partner before leaving but like you if not then its going to be a solo adventure.

Best of luck to you and hopefully you can post up some info on your progress when you can.

Thanks for sharing, planning on doing something very similar. Did you use a Go Pro set up?

Need a place on here for guys that will be headed that way to maybe link up, if not I will be doing it on solo also on my Harley....or maybe a Buell Ulysses

Been reading the OP reports as he goes, good the end I guess you just have to load up and go
