2012 GS Trophy Challenge
Okay boys and girls we have the results from the 2012 GS Trophy East Coast Qualifier!!!! Dan Farson came in first!! What a rider, leagues ahead of everyone else. Carlo Boffi grabbed 2nd!! After spending an entire year two up to Patagonia on that same F800. I (Andrew Lacy) was blessed with an unexpected finish of 3rd overall.
As a 3rd place finalist I am now in the running for the finals in South America, but the competition isn't over yet. We need everyone to go to the BMW Motard US Facebook page and vote for the finalist you like the most to go on. There are 6 riders in the running for the USA and this voting will narrow it down to the 3 that go to the Trophy Challenge and represent the USA. I really cannot believe I finished this well and would be honored to represent the USA, the ADV community, and BMW in South America. Be on the look out for a thread with pictures and videos!! Thanks to everyone for voting, Andrew Lacy Halfplate A few pics for your entertainment: Eddy and I studying for our navigation test. ![]() Ready to go! by Tamela Rich, on Flickr Our official BMW market shots, I call this Action Jackson ![]() Eating up challenge #3 on one the BMW's own F800 GS ![]() Get out and VOTE ANDREW LACY!!! Bill Conger showing the way. It was a real honor to have a Dakar participant judging us. Just something about racing Dakar that seems to earn you some street cred around here, not sure why.
One heck of a nice guy if you ever get to meet him. He is also an instructor at the BMW Performance Center in Greer, SC, go there and learn from some of the best.

Let's not forget the Western Qualifier last week out in Moab...
1st Ryan Frazier from Pheonix, AZ.... former highly decorated US Marine... a guy who does a lot for the GS community in AZ. 2nd Chad Yoshitomi from Anchorage, AK... never rode a F800GS until the Day 2 of the qualifer and only had 6 dabs through the entire skills course and then went back afterwards and did it on his 1150GS 3rd Jason Houle and Mike Drew... both very skilled riders.. first set of picts is from the day before the Day 1 of competition... there was a "warm up" ride out in Kane Creek Canyon... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

For your viewing pleasure: GS Trophy Hill Descent
This beauty was reserved for the final 12 and boy was it fun. If you listen carefully on this one you can hear me stall and restart the engine on the go couldn't believe I pulled that off on a bike I had all of 10 min of experience on and had never started. (listen for an engine start at 0:09, that's me restarting, the other engines you hear are more contestants headed up the trail.

East & West
![]() East: Forest. Dirt. More like the movie "Deliverance" (Now you listen, Ed. Damn it, we can get out of this thing, without any questions asked. ) West: Rocks. Sand. More like "Outlaw Josey Wales" (Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean.) |
