Further around our loop and off of Poland Rd. is Trail 20 - Eugene Gulch and the remains of this old stone house.

Other remains in the area are probably not going to have the same charm in the future.

On my GPS there was an icon that looked like a Tunnel here.

It looks more like an old mining operation.

They had some heavy equipment to tie down!

Eventually we made it to one of the most fun trails that we did find. Dandrea Trail #285. This is where it crosses Yankee Doodle Trail #284.

Slowred at the top.

We ended up hitting a lot of dead ends and miscategorized roads and trails but we are already planning round two!

Potentially as early as this weekend. I have been staring at Google Earth maps for a good part of the day trying to find routes that go through. Or at least routes that look like they go through!

I know it's been over a year since someone posted on this Ride Report, but I found it while going through RR's on NSRides.com and thought I would chime in about the Tunnel Icon on your GPS.

You are correct, it was a mining operation long ago and the structure remains you are standing at was the mill for the mining operations. The icon on your GPS was referring to the Poland to Walker Tunnel which is right there too. Just west (a couple hundred yards or so) of the Breezy Pines community information board is a dirt road that looks like a private driveway (its not and its on the north side of Polland Rd). You go up it a little ways and it loops back on itself and there is the entrance to the Polland Walker Tunnel.

Here are the gps coordinates of the tunnel entrance:

34 26.216 - 112 22.018

and here are a couple of photos I took a few months ago:

Couple of links to some more information on the tunnel and the area:

I've just recently started dirt biking and have a place up in that area. If you guys ever do a ride up there that's not designed to kill it's participants let me know, I'd love to join.

Slowred,
I understood the MT43's were nearly impossible to puncture?
