Better the tent than you....Ecuador is gorgeous. I could see living there, but i'll withhold thoughts on that until I actually see it myself next summer.

See we have the same moto. How do you like your Heidenaus? How many miles on them? I'll be starting on a fresh set here in LA and hope the original set will take me to Colombia where the plan will be to put on a new set for the second half of the ride...

Ride (and camp) safe,

Steve

I was never so pissed off!
Anyway, at least they didn't fuck with you or your bike; It could have been much worse...
I know that place......I have surfed there before.
That sucks about your theft.
I was camped on the beach on Catalina Island here in So Calif.
I paddled a kayak down to a remote beach and had the whole beach to myself. and the only way to get to the beach was by boat. I am guessing that someone came ashore in the middle of the night by boat and took some stuff. It's sad, but you can't trust leaving your stuff out

I have 13,000 miles on my tires. They are more than worn out and are a bit unsafe at this point. I am looking for a place that can balance my new ones. I like them because they last a long time and they have good grip in the dirt, sand and mud,
They were new when I left So Cal. If you took the Pan Am most of the way to So America, you could make it almost to the tip of So America on the same set of tires.

Still along for the ride. Best picture so far: kids on the school bus.
Are you going to make the southern tip in time, it's already April? And as for chasing armed bandits in your skivvy's, you put Harrison Ford to shame. Keep same and good riding.

No
That went all out the window when I couldn't get an earlier boat to Colombia. But it is the best thing that has happened. I was able to spend more time in Costa Rica and Panama. I have slowed the pace down a bit thru Colombia and Ecuador. I am not really in a rush. Had I got an earlier boat to Colombia, I would have been in a rush like most people are when they ride south. And that is missing the whole point of the trip. For me, it is not just a ride South. It is about taking the time to experience everything that the world has to offer me here. As it is now, I am enjoying my trip much more.
My plan is to make it Buenas Aires by mid May and get me and my bike to Europe for the summer. I will hit Patagonia on my way back when I ship my bike back to the Americas.
I will leave Ecuador during the first week of April. Ride down the coast of Peru and then Bolivia. I am hoping to be in Northern Argentina and Chile at the beginning of May for 2 weeks of wine tasting
That is as long as the Banditos leave me alone
Just call me Indiana Lalo

i love the fact that you're riding at your own pace. check out PorkAndCorn's ride report, he's down in Peru right now, has alot of great pictures and information that you might need. things to see, etc.

be prepared for the altitude and cold temps!

13K? Wow. Will be spending a fair amount of time on the Pan Am, but because we have six months I'm sure we'll be finding plenty of gravel roads. No huge desire to find really gnarly dirt roads. Bikeopotamus is way too heavy to pick up, solo!

Continuing to enjoy your RR. I agree with not being able to leave stuff out, pretty much wherever you travel.

Came out of a theater in Old Town Pasadena to find three guys cutting the rag top off my 66 MGB. 911 was my friend. Also had a camera grow legs and walk off the beach in Newport last year....Gotta watch that stuff.

Enjoy the ride!

Video

CLICK ON THE PICTURE BELOW TO WATCH THE VIDEO

There are lots of motorcycles in Colombia and not that many in Ecuador.
There are big taxes on Motorcycles here. And why have a motorcycle when you can have a car......gas is only $1.50 a gallon......and diesel is only a buck.
Most of the motorcycles in Colombia are less than 150 cc's. Big ones are 250's. But with 1200 cc's, I have enough power to blow past almost anything on the road..............as shown here in this video.
