I'm just back from working in the middle east and catching up on this blog. I'm glad your writing this blog -- for any reason. It's been a hell of a trip so far and theres more left to this story.

Funny how these things sometimes works out :) Hope you and your new hot friend have time to explore a little. You might be sorry if you did'nt. Have fun!

Lima is a pretty and modern city.
There are high rise building right along the coast.
It is never too hot and never too cold. The ocean keeps the temp.........just right!

So my plan was to ride to the big Jesus. It took about an hour.

So I go to leave the big Jesus and snap the chain on my bicycle. My first thought was................I am so glad my BMW doesn't have a chain. My second thought was..............this is going to be a long walk back

At least it was a nice walk back along the beach. The sun was just going down so most of it was in the dark. It took me almost 3 hours to push the bike back.
I tired to hire a taxi, but no one wanted to take me with the bike

The place I am staying is near Parque Kenedy in Miraflores. It is an area in Lima. It is just blockes from the beach and has lots of hotel, restaurants and things to do and see near by. Here's a some shot of the Park just outside my hotel.

So I go to this really cool gourmet market in town and get some lunch. I get a chicken empanada (spelling?) which I have been living on here (yum), some pasta, chips, chocolate and of course a big bottle of Cusquena Negra Beer. I have the big bottle wrapped in a plastic bag and drinking it like a wino as I am eating my lunch
There are lots of stray cats here. I mean LOTS!
So instead of feeding the pigeons, I am feeding the cats, drinking beer from a bag and hanging out with all the other bums in the park
I had to laugh.
So this is where my life has gone.
These two guys sit right between me.
They have these carts and were planning to sell crap they make to the tourist later that day.
And I guess I was in their favorite spot
I think they were trying to make me feel uncomfortable and get me to leave so I did the same thing and tried to get them to leave
I was saying strange things to them in Spanish like asking if they liked big bananas.
I was farting out loud.
And I even tried to take a bite of the guy's ice cream cone.
But in the end, we all had fun and we were laughing at it all.
And we enjoyed each others company.
Here is a picture of my two new friends......Jose and Adolpho

I don't know if you ever noticed, but every town, no matter how big or small has the local town crazy guy. And Miraflores is no exception. And this guy was big by Peruvian standard. He came up and shook my hand and gave me some hugs. He was yelling things in my ear and was just a general spaz.
But he made me laugh.
He would say things and for a split second you would think he was normal and then he would go off and start being crazy again

The National drink here in Peru is a Pisco Sour. It kind of tastes like a margarita. Pisco is a liquor made from distilled grapes. It is strong stuff. Here's the bartender mixing up a batch

Later that night, we go out to a disco and go dancing.
It is a well known fact that the Latina girls can dance and know how to move with the music.
Me........I am like a robot.
But Cathe doesn't seem to mind.
Just keep the Pisco Sours flowing

Do you remember the adobe house that I camped at my first week in Peru. The one in the rice field with the fruit trees?
Well, my 3 avocados I picked there finally got ripe and I made some home made guacemole here in Lima. I am carrrying some spices with me and bought some limes from the store that made some tasty Guac. I made enough and shared it with others in the hostel.
And no surprise, I had it with my new favorite beer

I left my bike at the hostel for about a week here in Lima. And when I went to start it, the battery was too low to crank the bike over.
With the help of Cathe's cute little Pueguot, we got my bike going again.

leaving Lima

Well, I am back on the road in the morning and heading south.
there have been times where there is nothing more I have wanted to do but get off the bike for a while. But after a week in Lima, I am ready to get rolling and looking forward to it........a lot!
I am not going far.
I am heading to Ica for some Peruvian wine tasting and some fun in the sun.
