I am sure there are places in Mexico that are dangerous. But every town and country in the world has it bad places. I think the border towns are more at risk. All I can tell you is that I have visited Mexico (Baja) more than 100 times in the past 10 years and I have NEVER had a bad experience. Just the opposite.....I find it to be safe and the people to be warm and friendly. In my travels south, I am a bit afraid of going thru Columbia. But I am hoping that it is like Mexico and just gets a bad rap from the press. I am sure people do get kidnapped there but I think as long as I am smart and don't hang out in the wrong areas, don't associate myself with drugs of guns, then I should be ok.
So in short, don't be afraid of Mexico. It is a beautiful country. And don't judge it from a story that you heard from a friend's, friend's second cousin. Millions of people visit each year without trouble. I am heading down tomorrow in fact. I am not worried about getting my head cut off. My biggest danger and personal threat to my safety will be that red beast sitting between my legs........of course I am refering to the Honda motorcycle I will be riding down to Cabo.

I too was a little worried about ol' Colombia and then I got there and fell in love, incredible riding, incredible people,. and just a damn good time!!! Enjoy it!!!! Everyone warned me and told me stories about Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, and Bolivia. Well those four Countries have been my favorite riding, cultures, and people so far into my trip!!

Yeah, I won't play the Indian's expensive games either. Usually I'm sympathetic to Indian causes, but almost nothing on this earth is worth 50$ to see.
The free camping at Canyon De Chelle is no longer free....someone figured out that they were missing out on some loot. I expect the free camping at the Navajo Natl Monument will be the next to go.

BTW, I'm loving your trip....and have much respect for you....

I am trying to include more pics of qhfan2 so you don't have to be subjected to seeing my ugly mug all the time

I just lead a trip with 13 guys from Colombia down to Cabo. And they all said the same thing about their country. Plus I have 13 new friends from Colombia that are going to help me along the way.
Now I can't wait to go!!!

I know we are trying to correct a wrong done years ago, but I believe we have taken it too far.
I can't build a casino on my land
I have to pay taxes
We are all Americans. We should have the same rules
I tried to sneak in to the canyon but got caught. The Indians called me a few names and I got out of there before they had me arrested.

I think it's time the Indians got out of the 18th century and into the 21st. I think the reservations should be disbanded and returned to PUBLIC LAND. Otherwise these idiots are going to continue to live like victims, blaming us (or Bush) and have no future. Stop giving them hand-outs (just like those on welfare) and encourage them to assimilate to our culture, which they can do just fine while preserving their own.

I guide off road tours in Baja for Chris Haines. I just finished a 7 day trip to Cabo. We had 17 clients,,,,,,that is a big group. 13 of the guys were from Colombia, 2 from Texas, 1 from Wisconsin and one guy was from Australia but living in California. It was a really fun group

If you already don't know her.......meet Baja Barbie. She has been riding with me in Baja for the past 13 years. She has logged in over 100,000 miles down in Baja. And she has been on every one of my Baja trips except for one..........and on that trip, I broke my leg.
