See these big bottles of wine?
They hold 27 liters of wine each
They were a special order for someone.
The gal giving the tour of the winery asked us what were think each bottle cost? She said the bottle alone costs $2000 ........that is for an empty bottle. Then add on the wine inside, the special cork and special label, you have a lot of money wrapped up here. I asked even a better question..................WHERE'S THE PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I headed to Chateau Pape Clement. The strange thing was the GPS coordinates took me in to the heart of downtown Bordeaux. I am thinking.......where is there going to be a 13th Century winery and vineyard around here. Well, I rounded the corner and there it was. The entire city grew up around this Chateau and its vineyards. It was like an island in a busy congested city.......too cool

Some people collect art or stamps or even wine. The owner of this chateau collects olive trees. These trees are over 1000 years old and were transplanted to the site from Spain. How crazy is that?
He even has one tree that is over 1800 years old

Cellar tour with some chicks from Sweden. They didn't know shit about wine but they had no trouble drinking the Pape Clement at $150 euro a bottle......and neither did I.

Thanks
I throw in all my spelling errors to make sure everyone is paying attention here. And yes, their second wine rocked! I tried the 2001 and it was amazing. And at about $30, it was a value

Downtown Pomeral.
Probably not high up on every adventure rider's place to visit but it was somewhere I had to go and see for myself. And yes, I did stop by Petrus but they were closed for a remodel.

I know some of you were thinking I was making this stuff up, but here is the garage that I slept in on that rainy stormy night in France.

Ed, I love yah pal. But you might consider renaming this blog "Around the World Wineries in 800 Days". I'm thinking you're going to spend too much money on wine to complete your trip. I know I'll get flamed for this but I think there has been too much emphasis on wine this past couple of months. Used to be a great travel blog with stops at wineries, now it's all about them. Sorry, just my humble opinion. But the bikini chick? Wow! But I know it's your trip and your blog, just sayin'..........

Hang in there LL
Once I am back from Lima, I am going to hit Champagne and then I am going to go thru a long dry spell going north in to Scandinavia and thru Eastern Europe.
Plus Asia and most of Africa too.
It has been a dream of mine to visit these historic wine regions here but I am almost done.
I will be hanging out with Kathe this week and will post some nice pictures that I know you will like for dirty old men like you........
And besides, I can't run with the bulls every day otherwise I would surely be dead by now. And that would be the end of my blog.
Lol

What brand of hammock did you buy?
I am actually liking the hammock more than the tent these days
