It is beautiful ride thru Burgundy.
The region is a long skinny strip of land with the best vineyards rolling up the hillside that gets the best sun exposure

This little road overlooks quite possibly the best vineyards in Burgundy......La tache and Romanee Conti

I went and did a tour of this big winery in downtown Beaune. The self guided tour was about $20 so I thought it was expensive but the caves were really cool. I think they said they have over a mile of passages.
ANd there was wine bottles being bottle aged everywhere. And since it was self guided, I was sad I didn't bring a cork screw and a glass and start popping open a few bottles.

But as it turned out it would have been unnecessary. At the end, they had about 20 different bottles open at different stations and it was a help yourself kind of thing. So it the end, $20 seemed like a bargain for what I got.

They even had some 1959's (great year) for sale. At about $500 a bottle, I was tempted.

I visited this winery at 1 pm and the owner was busy and told me to come back at two pm. So I came back and he was gone. I noticed that his car was missing from the garage. So I just sat in the wine cellar waiting for him. He left the door open and the key in the lock. I waited for about 15 minutes and I couldn't wait for him any longer and started to give myself my own wine tasting.
One thing I like about France is that it seems safe.
You can camp in Chateau Lafite's vineyard, you can drive thru DRC's vineyard and you can walk in to someone's winery and do your own wine tasting and everyone trusts that you would steal or distroy anything.

These are the stars of Burgundy
DRC

Depending on the vintage, these bottles can sell for thousands of dollars each.

And just to entertain myself, I used my Texas accent and pretended to be a rich, obnoxious, oil tycoon at this wine shop to see where it would get me at this shop.......the answer was NOWHERE.

I found this cool place to sleep in between the Primier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. I was sipping on a nice bottle of wine as the sun was going down. I saw some lightning flashed of in the distance. And then the lightning got closer. Then I put on my rain fly over my hammock because the wind kicked up which told me it was going to rain.....and it did.

Here's my view in the morning

Since it was on the way to Paris, I stopped by the town of Chablis.
Here is the little town of Chablis from the Grand Cru vineyards planted on the hillside

Here is where I spent the night.
When it gets close to dark, I start looking for a place to camp.
My requirements are somewhere safe, quiet and flat.
I like to be next to my motorcycle too.
And I added one more requirement this night........somewhere by a cold river or lake so I could wash my hair and cool off my wine that I bought to have with dinner that night.
This spot was perfect. It even had a picnic bench

Riding to Paris, I took some smaller roads to avoid paying the tolls.
But the smaller roads are slow going.
As the closer I got to Paris on this Sunday afternoon, the more of these I encountered. And yes, I broke a few laws trying to get around them all.

City of Lights
City of Love
What ever you want to call it
I call it the city of tourists and people
I would think that Paris is even more beautiful in the off-season
