Camping in Mexico
It is hard to camp in Mexico
It seems like all the land is privately owned. Even in the National Parks it can be hard to find a place without a fence around it I left Monte Alban near Oaxaca around dusk and tried to find a place to pitch my tent. I couldn't and then it got dark and then it became even more difficult. After riding an hour after dark I decided that any old spot would due I hate riding after dark, especially in Mexico. I came up to a Polica check point next to a gas station. There were some big rigs pulled off to the side. They were camping in their trucks so I thought I would do the same thing I felt safe because the poilce were just 100 meters away. But it was very noisy with all the cars and trucks near by

I survived the night and kept riding the next day.
I have noticed that every town has a church and it is by far the nicest thing in town. This town wa not even big enough to have a starbucks (I say that as I joke....I have only seen one so far in Alcapulco) but it had a huge church

I have a pretty strong stomach but I always try to be careful what I eat down here. I try to find a place with lots of people eating there. That can be hard because usually none of the restaurants have any people in them.
I came across this little taco stand with people, I was hungry, so I stopped. It was a good sigh as the lady told me to wash my hands before I ate.

More Ruins
I read about these ruins in the small village of Teppoztlan called Tepozteco. The directions were simple........follow the main road in town and start hiking up the hill at the end. In Mexico, nothing is ever as simple as that

Ok, back to Tepozteco
This is a ruins on a much smaller scale than Monte Alban, but it was the hike/climb that made it fun

It's 450 meters straight up.
That is like taking the stairs in the new World Trade Center Freedom tower (Americas new tallest building) Plus throw in about 6000 feet of elevation and thinner air, it was a but kicker

There were a bunch of these critters at the ruins. I am not sure what they were called but they didn't seem to mind all the people around. But don't try to pet them.........they don't like that as I found out!

Campng
Again, I was looking for a place to camp. It was getting dark and I didn't want to find another place just off the side of the road, hunkered down like an animal in its hole. Just by luck, I saw a sign with the universal camping pictogram......a tent. So I followed the road and it lead to this cool little place that rented cabanas for the night.
It had a great view and individual little pools to swim in. They had no food but cold beer........sign me up! The cabanas were about $40 a night and had 3 beds and a bathroom I used my tent and they charged me about $8 And I had the place to myself on a Saturday night

My little camp spot was near the Xochicalco Ruins. I didn't have time to explore them. I have plans to stop at a few more bigger and better ones along the way. But here is a picture from the road
