Just when I thought the bugs couldn't get any worse, I find a new bug that makes the mosquitos and sand flies seem tame. It rained last night and a colony of fire ants decided to make under my tent and gear their new home. And there were a million of them. Trying to get them off, I had them all of my hands and feet. And it feels like a bee sting except there are so many, you can't help but get bit several times.
I will add that to my list......watch for fire ants where I camp

Happy New Year

Love the pics and stories. I think from reading the posts from others, you have a lot of company riding with you!

Happy New Year

Awesome

Ed, Happy New Year! Just playing catch up on your report... Really like all the travel issues and details about camping and interaction with locals and other travelers. The cave exploring sounds a lil'' sketch though
Have a great 2013!

Unfortunately, I put my tent up to a guy that liked to sing. And not good at all. He was loud and was still singing at mid-night. I tried singing too so he would see how annoying it was......it didn't help
I finally yelled.....................SHUT THE FUCK UP
And he just got louder
He finally went to sleep and so did I

Yo Ed

Was that place called 'La Ventosa' or something like that? I stayed at a place that looks very much like that like 30 years ago!!! :-) Probably just hallucinating. But there was a nasty guy hanging around back then too! ;-)

Your RR is awesome man. Awesome!

Happy New Year man!

Happy new year

Still enjoying your RR. Your photos are great. What camera is it, as you also took it underwater. Hope 2013 is a great and safe adventure for you. Keep the report and photos coming.

I am leaving Belize today (I hope)
In short, the beaches were a let down but I missed the islands which is what Belize is known for.
The other thing is that there are not a lot of people here
And hardly any cars on the road
It makes driving here nice
But any roads other than the main roads are going to be unmaintained
That means potholes
I tried riding up mountain pine ridge road but it rained that night and it was muddy and alippery
I went back about five miles and went across this one lane bridge and nearly slide off the road in to the creek
I pussed out and turned around. I am really sorry I will miss it as there are ruins, caves and swim holes with natural waterslides.
But I am heading to Guatemala this morning.
I am excited to enter in to a new country and continue my journey south in to the unknown

Last night, new years eve, I spent the night in San Ignacio, which is the second largest city here near the Gautemala border
The town is not big
You can walk from one side to the other in ten minutes
I got a 13 dollar a night hotel in the heart of the city
I spent the day doing some work on tge bike
Oil and air filter, etc
Doea anyone know how to remove the rear brake pads
Later that night, I went out, had some beers ad rum
I met some people but everyone was paired up and I felt like a third wheel
So I just came back to my room at midnight and tried to go to sleep with all the fireworks going off outside
It is hard traveling alone at times
My birthday is in two days
I think that will be hard too
Ok, enough of that
I am off to see Tikal

Now is the time to look inward, and make adjustments in our lives. I too have traveled alone and know there can be lonely and dark times. However, these same times can be used for great reflection and action.

Please keep in mind, your grass on your side of the fence looks pretty darn good to us desk jockies! Have a Happy & Safe New Year........................
