southern America by boat.....plane.......Pogo stick......help!
I am having trouble finding a way to get my bike to Columbia
I might have waited too long You guys that are checking the other riders blogs, what are my options? There has to be another way besides the sail boats to get your bike over there Can I take a plane Ship? Please, if you know some other way or if you know of a boat that is leaving, please let me know what you know. I figured that part would be easy |

You might have seen these threads already.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=759804 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=293648 The Colombia jump seems to be the most time consuming, and expensive part of the adventure that I've observed. Always wondered about storing the bike in Panama, and flying to Colombia. Pass that savings along to renting a bike, or even public transportation just to mix it up.

Captain jack says the 21st is the soonest I can catch a sailboat At this point, I dont mind paying, I just want to know what my plan is and when and where I am going. I have been on my own time schedule so far for my entire trip. There has never been a need to preplan anything There are always accommodations. Gas stations have had gas. And restaurants have had food without a wait. I am surprised there is no ferry between the countries. There has to be more than a few people doing this |

That is a lot For that kind of money, I would rather be on a sail boat eating and swimming. |

Sorry if this was posted and I missed it, but John here seems to have had something work out. The last few pages outline his course of action...
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...831076&page=86 Reading these various reports, its interesting to note that people's true natures seem to present themselves when things are not going right. I get really tired of people pulling the "Ugly American" routine...so far most advrider guys are doing a pretty good job of being great ambassadors for future motorcycle travelers. Good Fortune to you on your progress! |

Thanks for the insight After spending 2 months of under-utilized resources (all accommodatios, restaurants have been been open and sometimes empty), I didnt think it would be so difficult to get to Colombia. I figured that someone would fulfill the supply and exceed the demand for boats heading to Colombia. But there is a dearth of boats and demand exceeds the supply. I think I am have a place on a boat called the independence. I booked it thru Captain Jacks I am waiting for a response from them to confirm my reservation. The date for my crossing is the 21st of February. That means I have a month to kill in Costa Rica and Panama. Not such a bad thing. But I think it does mean that I wont be able to make it to Patagonia before winter. And that bums me out but it also doesn't put the pressure on me to make time to get down there quickly. I just need to plan one day at a time. Because, in the end, everything changes.....nit fault to yourself. You just need to be flexible and roll with the punches. |
