Still Rolling

Thanks for everyone's nice comments and support.
I have been soaking in a lot of hot springs lately thinking about things and trying to figure out the best direction for me to head..........and that direction is south.
There are no guarantees in life. You can only do your best and be the best person you can. Sometimes that is not enough........especially if other people are involved.
There are no guarantees that I will finish this trip but if I don't, it will be my decision.
In a relationship, you can do everything right and be the best person you can, and it can still end, not fault of your own.
I am not saying that I have been perfect, but in this case, I have more control over the outcome and success in my motorcycle adventure that I ever had in any relationship back at home. It takes two to tango but only one to ride a motorcycle around the world.
So I am still heading south.......albeit slowly.
I am taking my time in Costa Rica because my boat doesn't leave Panama until the 21st. It has given me a chance to explore this beautiful (but expensive) country.
In a sea of 150cc bikes, my 1200cc motorcycle really stands out in a crowd.

I left the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica behind and headed in to the interior. The weather went from 95 degrees and sunny to 75 degrees and rainy. It was a nice change to feel it cool again.
I took a ferry from the Nicoya Peninsula to Puntarenas. It took an hour and a half and cost less than $5 for me and my bike. It was the only thing so far in CR that has been inexpensive.

Making friends

On the ferry crossing, I met fellow adventure rider Miguel and his GF. They are from CR and were spending the weekend in Montezuma. He rides a Ducati Monster. He says there are not many Ducatis in CR. He also has good taste in riding apparral sporting a Rev'it jacket. He even put the Jacket to the test with a little spill on a dirt road leaving Montezuma. He and his GF were ok. The Ducati had some bent expensive Italian parts.

My BMW............1
Big Lizard...........0

This guy (or should I say gal) ran out in front of me and I hit her with my back tire. Sad, as I like lizards and snakes.

I also hit a chicken in Guatemala. I looked back in my rear view mirror and all I saw was feathers flying thru the air. And I hit the chicken in front of a big group of people.........and let's just say they were not happy with me.
But I know what they had for dinner that night

My first stop after leaving the Pacific Coast was the town of Fortuna. It is next to the recently active volcano Arenal. There are lots of hot springs in the area. Most have resorts built around them. And some cost more than $50 to visit them for the day. I asked around and found some for free. It was actually an entire river of hot water, full of waterfalls and pools. I soaked in these pools for about 2 hours

Whoops
Kind of out of order, but here is a picture from the deck of the ferry.
It had some beautiful views and was well worth the $5

Places to stay in everyone's price range

You can camp for free
Stay in a hostel for $10 a night
Get your own room for $35 at a hotel
Or stay at a fancy resort for $300+
You pick

I like to mix it up
I like the beauty in camping and finding a place of my own on the beach.
The hostels are cheap and you can always strike up a conversation with other travelers.
And the resorts provide a brief view of what it is like to lead the life of the rich in famous

Then you can find a mix of it all
Here is a 5 star hostel in Fortuna for $15 a night. A bargain!

And the beds there were the best so far.
Most of the hostel beds are gross.
And they look more like a hammock than a mattress.

Funny how things work out

I was heading to the Poas Volcano and it was getting late. I was looking for a place to camp. The park was closed. They did not allow camping. I checked around the area and there was no place to camp. I even was looking for a spot to camp along the road, but everything was fenced off. And there was no cheap hostels in the area. I asked a guy and he told me to go to La Paz Waterfall Gardens. It had a nice name so off I went. When I arrived, it was not a campground. It was a fancy resort!. I figured there was no way they would let me camp there but I went thru the motions and asked anyway.
The manager was a guy named Eduardo. And he was a motorcycle nut like me with the same name.
He told me that I could camp in the parking lot if I wanted to.
But he also said he would give me a very special price to stay in a room. I told him thanks but no thanks.
But he insisted on showing me a room.
And here is what I saw.......
And I couldn't refuse.
It was the most incredible place I have ever stayed!!!!
Well worth the price. Normally the rooms are about $300 a night
If you are ever traveling in the area on your motorcycle, talk to Eduardo and see if he will give you the same discount.
You will be glad you did

Waterfalls everywhere
The shower was like a little grotto with a waterfall

And in the bathroom, there was a jucuzzi tub with a waterfall garden as a backdrop. It is hard to see in the picture, but the back wall was covered in plants and had a waterfall cascading down thru it all.
