Taking the Pan American highway thru Costa Rica, you have to cross the Cerro de la Muerto.
It is an 11,000 foot pass thru the mountains.
I was up in the clouds.
The temp dropped down to 50 degrees at the top
It was the first time I got cold in quite a while.
But within 30 minutes, I was back down to 2500 feet and 85 to 90 degrees again

I headed back to the Pacific side of CR again.
This time I spent the night in Dominical
I camped on the beach that night.
Dominical is a cool little beach town.
A kid came up to me on the beach. He was really drunk. He said he was from Maine.
We started chatting
He just came from Panama so I asked him what was good in Panama.
And he said........."the cocaine".
At that point I just wanted him to go away.
I was afraid he was going to get me in trouble just because I was standing next to him.
But then he started talking to a local drug dealer on the street. I know he was a drug dealer because he asked me if I wanted to buy some stuff earlier. The drunk kid and the drug dealer then walked off together.
I was happy.
Any time you read about some poor American getting robbed or mugged in Central America, I will just think of this guy. He was asking for something bad to happen to him. And you never hear about the other side of the story.
If you go looking for trouble , it will find you

The next day I took the crappy road out to Playa Tomales on the Osa Peninsula.
This is on the Gulfo Dulce. And this place is really cool.
Off the beaten path
Remote and beautiful
And the water is like 95 degrees!
I camped on the beach again the night
(or at least next to the beach.....I can't take my big bike on to the soft sand)

The next morning, I went back to Puerto Jimenez and stopped at some of the nice beaches in the area
The jungle is so thick that you can be just a 100 feet from the water and never know it. It is nice to have the GPS tell you when you have arrived at the beach

To get to the remote beaches, there is almost always a stream crossing

The next night I camped on the beach again on the Osa Peninsula.
I forgot the name of this beach.
But I am always looking for a cool place to stay with a nice view from my tent........and I found it here.
It was spot that jutted out on the water where I had a 270 degree view of the Gulfo Dolce.
Beautiful......right??????
Well read on!

It was a beautiful evening....... A few clouds in the sky
Warm and humid
No wind
I was just enjoying the view and then.......... the wind picked up
And then it started to really blow hard.
I was in a very exposed area
And the ground was too hard to stake my tent down.
So I got in my tent to keep it from blowing away.
Then it began to rain
Then it started to pour
I didn't have my fly on because it was too hot and I wanted the ventilation.
But everything was getting wet so I went outside to put the rain fly on. By the time I was done, there were puddles inside my tent and my pillow was floating around like a boat on a lake inside my tent.
I mopped things up as best as I could with a towel but it was so humid, nothing really got dry.
And as I was drying things, I looked over and saw something big crawling around inside my tent. It was a frickin scorpion!.. I got it out but I was wondering if there were more inside hiding in my riding jacket or pants.
And then someone decided to have a party at midnight and cranked up this boom boom latin music.
I was wet, hot and annoyed!
But I fell asleep anyway
Riding does that
Here is a picture in the morning........everything drying out in the sun
