On the other side of the Gulfo Dolce, I road out to a place called Pavones. It is a famous surf town known for having the 2nd longest left wave in the world.
Here is one of the (good) bridges you cross to get there

Here is another good bridge
This one crosses over the Rio Claro river It is one lane There are no gaurd rails And it is 25 feet straight down to the river. Kids were jumping off the bridge in to the river below One wrong move and me and my BMW would be taking the plunge too

I really am enjoying this report. Your pictures are fantastic. I am an old timer and have many regrets. Everyone is for something I did not do. This report and pictures will really be welcomed by you in years to come and looked at with fond memories. Gonna keep tabs on this report and the days you are in South Africa you will have a bed when around my neck of the woods.
When reading about the junkie and the drug pedlar, it just reinforces that it is the same world wide. Look for trouble and it will find you. Tragic bit is that is someones son, and the pieces will probably have to be picked up by his heart broken loved ones. |

Girls, Girls, Girls...
Hey Ed
I signed up because I figured you could use some help with all the testosterone on the site.. :) Hey, and maybe I will meet someone on the site since it is overwhelmingly men I couldn't believe the picture of the "sloth", very cool. I really am loving the beach scenes and the hot springs. You are really pushing me along in wanting to sell it all and go adventure for awhile. I am fearful of it though. As much as I love to explore and see/experience new things I am also love home, garden etc. I have been trying to tell myself I could recreate that when I come back....so proud of you for having the courage to do this as I think you will look back on this as an irreplaceable lifetime experience. I would also have to do it differently as I think females have more to be concerned with in the safety department. I am excited to continue living vicariously through you. Also, where are all the blondes? Everybody you have posted a picture of is brunette! You haven't gone to the dark side have you? Take care, have fun, and stay safe. Kim |

Pavones was one of the best stops on my trip so far. The surf was awesome and the town had a cool vibe. There were not a lot of backpackers there because it was hard to get to. I am going to post some more pics soon from Pavones

Hey, great ride report, man. Im definitely jealous sitting at home in cold montana now. Those muffin stealing critter is actually a Coati Mundi. I only know that because my sister's friend used to have one as a pet. I think she paid about $400 for it. They are interesting animals ato say the least. Her Coati Mundi 'Bongo" liked to climb all over everybody. He would sit on my shoulder and search through every pocket, looking for treats. And if he thought you were hiding something from him, he would bite your hand pretty hard. I didnt mind, but you had to be careful. Stay safe and keep up the great report!

This trip is a once in a life trip dream trip. I am doing it at an age where my body is still cooperating. When I get to So Africa, be sure to have a couple of bottles of some nice Pinotage ready for us to pop open |
