Some major milestones today....

Time to get the engine carrier bolted up. Here's the RMW engine carrier parts all laid out.

Urethane bushings assembled with a heavy dose of Bel Ray Waterproof Grease.

Wheeled the engine/trans outside, I decided this would be a good time to hook up the engine and test crank it to make sure the new starter assy was working like it should. Oh yeah, cranks over nice and healthy!

Engine carrier bolted on the engine, just about ready to install. I need to get the proper shouldered metal lock nuts for the engine mount to carrier bar connection, the carrier is temporarily being held in place with regular washers/nuts.

My father and friend Mike came over to help with the install today. Here Mike is helping guide the engine into place.

Engine installed!

Finished bolting in the carrier bar.

We rolled the bus back down the driveway so we could move it inside....now the fun starts. With the lift springs installed only in the back the bus has a nice stink beetle effect going on right now :-)

Now time to get the bus into the garage. We drove the wifes Subaru into the garage and tied Mike's 12v winch to the rear tow point......But the weight of the Westy was just to much for the little winch. So we rounded up a few more people to push while the little winch strained to tow the westy up the steep incline. Inch by inch we finally made it to the top.

Once to the top of the driveway we lowered the rear of the bus by installing steel rims on the back.....nope that's not going to do it, we'll have to install them on the front as well.

Ok...finally it's ready to be rolled inside.

Inside the nice dry, warm garage!

We re-installed the tires so I can get under the bus to finish with the engine installation. Now I can roll it back and forth a short distance in the garage depending on what I'm doing at the time. Not a ton of room left in the garage but at least I'll be warm and dry! :-)

Enough room for the rear hatch to open :-)

Another shot of the engine installed. Looks like it came that way from the factory! Quite a bit of ground clearance with the shortened oil pan, Once the project is buttoned up I'll fabricate a custom skid plate to protect the engine/oil pan.

Vanagon as Bike Hauler.. Never thought it would catch on.

Nice work there Hodakaguy!! Looks really clean. Got my own Syncro Project going on too. I've done all of the necessary stuff on my 87 Syncro with the Subaru 2.5L engine and have now switched over to preparing the 91 for a full interior remodel and new multi-Fuse Panel electrical system.

I've stripped the entire interior out and have cleaned out the old wiring, removed the fiberglass and then did the sound mat throughout and finished off all of the walls with a multi-layer insulation job that uses 1" K-Flex closed cell Neoprene panels.. hopeing to wrap up that phase tomorrow and then start with laying out the auxiliary electrical main runs while all of the cabinets are out... but what a mess!! not neat and tidy like yours. It's been pretty well organized up until today..

A few weeks ago:

Tonight

But rearward, all of the sound and thermal insulation is complete:

And the other night after completing the insulation behind the stove cabinet, I did a video sound test..

The BIG question: Will it EVER get back together?? After that, we install the 1.9L Turbo Diesel that was in my Syncro that the wife "Killed" ... You don't "wreck" a Syncro. They are so rare now that it's MURDER!!!

I like your double awnings. I'm looking to get one on the sliding door side. What brand/make are yours?
