I probably f'd around south of El Paso too long, but I wasn't going far into NM.
 Gotta love a state with peppers on the welcome sign   No pictures of the joy described below. Temp is over 100 in the shade by the time I entered NM, but LasCruces is only a few miles up the road..... Well... 5 of those miles was a 3 lane, bumper to bumper fresh black tarmac parking lot....... UGH!!! After about 5 minutes of sitting there the thermometer on my bike was reading 116. I tried to hide next to a truck for some shade, but I decided that that was a dumbass thing to do... I pulled over to the berm where I drank 32 ounces of water and dumped 32 ounces on me. Standing there for about 10 seconds, decided this was gonna kill me..... So for the first time in my life, I rode up the berm.... mile after mile. If I had been pulled over, I figured life and death was a pretty good reason to break the law. There were disabled cars with their hoods up strewn all the way up the berm. A motorcycle caught me and I thought he was a LEO.... looked that way in the mirror... but it was just another rider trying to save himself. He said that he saw me doin it and doubted he could sit there much longer... so strength in numbers. At the end, construction was the culprit.  I got to my hotel about 10 minutes later..... took a nice cool shower.... OH YEA>>>>> that's better... The view from my room.. Bike needs some dirt on it....   I felt well enough after the break, I rode the bike to the store to get some grub. No harm no foul...

I intended to write the report along the way, but I really had trouble using the small keyboard. Too much of a pain in the ass. It worked pretty well for updates, but Scott and Kevin's smartass phones were more useful for everything.
Somebody needs to help me, put Saguaros where the power poles are... Such is the road....  Good morning NM!  OH YEA!!   This was the first time I crossed the CD!!!!! I lost count at 22 crossings. Soon after that, I am arriving at Cannonshot's CDR track!!!!! The note is "drug smugglers" Most likely a reference to an event he found while researching local history. I stopped, to investigate, but nobody approached with an unmarked briefcase.  I decide to ride a bit of the track, so I could say I did.....  These rain clouds were popping up all morning, but nothing was hitting the ground. They did cool the air, add some humidity an shade.   All at once, I saw a large raptor sitting on a fence post and this rainbow.... I knew then that my trip was going to be good!!!!!   Here is the first dirt on Cannonshot's CDR for me/     I SO FRIGGIN LOVE THE DESERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE CAREFUL on many of these roads. They look like this for miles then, just over a rise, you are in 6"deep sand.....Unless you've been training for the DAKAR the sand piles can exact a huge toll. A friend has just that tale to tell.

I'm glad you're back at it Jack. I was having CDR withdrawal yesterday.
BTW, I thought it was Unicorns and rainbows not Raptors and rainbows. I guess either is a good omen, it was an awesome trip. |
