Yesterday 655 and 829? were fun roads. Putting space between myself and that Cadillac was fun after I didn't get a ticket, but hardly relaxing.

Well, I'm in northeast Alabama and Sandy is going to be in my way for getting home.

Typical.

Boonwife is down near Aiken with the horse trailer. She's planning to stick west, through Reidsville, up to Danville VA, then 360 home. It looks like it should be ok through early afternoon, but 15-20mph winds.

Or you can go ride it out at Hawk's place

Did you ride through Fort Payne and see Joe's Truck Stop?

Rode through there several times, didn't notice any special truck stops.

Home about 1615. Rain started around Cleveland and didn't quit until Sylva. Cold and wet, but the Gerbings came through. I had planned to stay at HalcyonDaze's tonight but he said they are calling for snow and rain up there tonight and tomorrow so I just ground it on home.

Riding across 74 in the rain was pretty cool.

Joe's Truck "Stop"
In 1935 Joe Faulkner built a house on Fifth Street, directly in front of a mountain road. Things were fine until around 1950 when Alabama designated the road State Highway 35, and truckers started using it. The truckers would burn out their brakes on the steep, two-mile mountain pass, and the first year thirteen trucks went through Joe's yard.

Tuna, did you know Gately? I never met him but I think I remember him being a Georgia guy.

The Truck Stop must be right across from where you have to make a 90 degree right to go in to town. I'm surprised I didn't notice it. Maybe I was paying attention to the road.

I'll try to get a pic on my way home.

Boonie, I don't know that guy, I may have to look him up.

He passed away some time ago. Lots of cool things to visit on that site, if you're just looking for reason to take a street ride to some place new.

Ok hijack off
